I kind of know what it is, but what exactly does it do. Just install over the current version without formatting and therefore all the files, XP accounts, Apps etc will still be there?

yeah, pretty much. It will wipe out all drivers not digitally signed by M$, and replace any currupted/missing system files, but thats about it..........all apps should stay, even desktop wall paper and such..............just my 2 cents..............
