I am using Datawrite Yellow tops which are 1x but i am burning them now with 2x with a 105. Is there any disadvantege to this. Cos if not them its better buying 1x media and burning @ 2 and will work cheaper than buying 2x media.

i've done about 50 burns on 1x yellow tops at 2x and had no problems so far :)

No there are no problems with doing this. The whole reason why this firmware was developed is so that 105 users could have higher burning speeds on cheaper media. I have been using it for a couple of months and not a single one of my discs has developed problems (I am using Riteks). From reading people's experiences on the various forums that I visit I have yet to find someone come forward and say that burning 1x media at 2x has given them problems.

what burning program will let you burn 1x media at 2 x??? i have the sony burn drive... & i am useing record now max 4.5 and it burns at 1x.

U have to update ur dvd copiers firmware m8. I dont know if u can with Sony. I did it with my Pioneer 105 and it works.

With the Sony you can burn the G03 Riteks at 2x (unless you have a pretty old version of the firmware) but you can't burn other types of 1x media at 2x.

So far I mostly burn 1x data disc at 2x, (about 10) and have no problem. I fear that it might corrupt the disc somehow but that doesn't seem to be the case. It actually improve the quality writing on some of the princo disc I have. Or maybe that could be because of the firmware upgrade because I was using the basic firmware that came with the drive.

I have a Sony 500a and burn MOST brands of 1x media at 2x,not only Riteks.I can burn more brands at 2x with the Sony,than with the 105!My 2x burns with the Sony is up to about 700.

Which firmware hack do you have for your 105?
