hwjchim Jul 31, 2003, 04:28 PM which of these 2 brands are the better ones? ritek or princo? Mr Snatcher Jul 31, 2003, 04:36 PM ritek. do a search, there are a sh*t load of posts on this. It will give reasons why. jesterrace777 Jul 31, 2003, 04:44 PM Originally posted by hwjchim which of these 2 brands are the better ones? ritek or princo? You must be joking. This question has been asked multiple times. The answer is always the same. . . . . . .RITEK. jeepers94 Aug 01, 2003, 09:12 PM I would not say it is always the same. I would say maybe 99 times out of a hundred! I have talked to a couple of people that have better luck with Princos tha Riteks.I have used most brands, with various burners,Princos are some of the worst with the newer burners! I might buy a spindle if they were a third the price of Riteks! jesterrace777 Aug 02, 2003, 12:27 AM Well no media is a 100% but Ritek is as close to it as I have found for the price. DR69ON Aug 02, 2003, 04:20 AM Prime isn't bad alternative also for the price. So far 30 burn and Verified at 100% everytime . This is rare because when I was using Princo which yeild bad result like powercalibration error and cycle redundency error even when it successfully burn. No wonder why so many movie freeze at the end on princo media. Ritek is still king of DVD-R though. PhilEnfield Aug 02, 2003, 06:29 AM Princo .. vs .. Ritek ? Score out of 10 = Princo 1 ..... Ritek 10 Wouldn't waste my time on Princos .... they are always bad news, when used for movies. I notice SVP in the UK have now stopped stocking the Datawrite Redtops, after their earlier claims of them being the "dogs danglies" and offering money back guarantees for used or unused failures. Early batches worked well, but subsequenrt batches must have had a dye change, as they have proved to be next to useless. I have burnt close to 500 Riteks and would never use anything else. Recently I grabbed a tub of 10 Datawrite 2 X RW's (Green&Blacks) and they wouldn't re-write .... guess who makes them ? ....... Correct ... Princo !! murasame Aug 02, 2003, 08:17 AM I have datawrite 4xred tops and they can only burn at ~3x so uh yeah I'd avoid them :s now i hae to order some riteks heh geobon Aug 02, 2003, 09:38 AM Well in my opinion ritek, and as for princo ive heard lots of people praising them, But i think they are total junk, They work ok to start off with then they just seem to loose data by themselves, The more u use them the worse they get?, Id only recommend princo for 4gb or under because anything on the limit your reader starts to have problems reading it. Buying princo's is a cheaper alternative i'll agree but in the long run they cost you more and im sure many people on here will agree. But hey thats just my opinion because i think quality & lifespan is more important than price. murasame Aug 02, 2003, 11:44 AM geobon : true. DR69ON Aug 03, 2003, 02:18 AM Princo only get praise because many people buy them cheap and they get successful burns. What they don't know is even with sucessful burn, it can sometimes make certain area (usually the very edge of the disc) not readable. That's why many movie on princo freeze near the end. I had very good result with princo when I first got my drive (strong laser). After 200 DVDR burn, the laser isn't as strong as it used to be, so it has a harder time reading princo disc. Also many people never check out the disc after they burn, thinking it's a burn successfuly, it would be a perfect burn. dcmanryan Aug 05, 2003, 02:33 AM My PS2 likes Princo much better. I have actually got the red screen with Riteks, both white top and silver. Just for kicks, I reburned 2 of them on Princos and they work fine now. The games were Finding Nemo and Gitaroo Man. Strange but true. jesterrace777 Aug 05, 2003, 03:25 AM As I said no media is 100% and it does vary. However you will find far more users who can't get Princos to read on their PS2s then you will find users who can't get Riteks to read on thier PS2s. danman Aug 05, 2003, 04:25 AM I don't know why this is even a point of argument. Ritek are head and shoulders above Princo PERIOD. It's accepted just like the world is round, night follows day. nimbles Aug 05, 2003, 10:45 AM ummm not sure if this should be on the consumers-op page but for those in the uk, svp are doing ritek backed unbranded silvers, and light blue datasafe's with ritek dyes for £1.19 a disc (both 4x-g04), and they're doing 2x datasafe yellows (ritek g03) for £0.89- also big pockets are doing nanya - ritek backed 4x (g04) for 99p a disc-(although never bought nan ya discs before so not sure about that) now you have no excuse not to buy riteks over princos! :D Mr Snatcher Aug 05, 2003, 12:10 PM Originally posted by DR69ON Prime isn't bad alternative also for the price. Was wondering about those. jesterrace777 Aug 05, 2003, 02:20 PM Originally posted by nimbles ummm not sure if this should be on the consumers-op page but for those in the uk, svp are doing ritek backed unbranded silvers, and light blue datasafe's with ritek dyes for £1.19 a disc (both 4x-g04), and they're doing 2x datasafe yellows (ritek g03) for £0.89- also big pockets are doing nanya - ritek backed 4x (g04) for 99p a disc-(although never bought nan ya discs before so not sure about that) now you have no excuse not to buy riteks over princos! :D I would steerclear of the Datawrite/Datasafe branded ones though as they are having HUGE quality control issues right now. Even on the Ritek dye discs. PhilEnfield Aug 05, 2003, 02:30 PM It seems as though the demand worldwide for Ritek disks, has lead to a flood of Fake & Faulty disks being put on the market. SVP in the UK are warning their customers to be careful, when buying Riteks, for this reason. It's most probable that some of the more popular brands are being copied, somewhere in Asia and being passed off as the real thing, which may explain jester's point. jesterrace777 Aug 05, 2003, 04:29 PM What do you want to bet that this warning is due to the new "Ritek" Yellows that have been introduced. |
