Mr Snatcher Aug 01, 2003, 10:46 AM Hi
I just installed a new mobo ECS 648FX-A and winxp. Problem is mouse freezes then is fine, then freezes and then is fine and so on, same with web pages. It has 1gig of ddr pc3200 ram, and its a p4 2.4ghz 800fsb. Also have a controller card installed for extra ide channels.
I stayed up all night causes it was buggin me and now I cant see straight. I am at work now trying to come up with som ideas, can anybody give me any ideas on what is causing this. Temp of processor is 57 degrees Celsius and 5 fans. Thought it might be heat related.
Things I've tried:
Virtual memory set to 1.5 gig
Scandisk and defrag
BIOS set to optimal performance
Reinstalled xp
Reinstalled all drivers
and finally 1 hour of sleep:yawn:
Thanks
Badidoh Aug 01, 2003, 11:45 AM u have 1gig of ram...meaning, u can set the virtual memory lower...dont need much no more...
your mouse...what kind of mouse it is??
tried a different driver?
tried it on another computer to see if it works?
tried a different mouse?
used default xp mouse driver and have problem?
mouse on usb or ps/2?
if on ps/2 try using usb, and if usb, try using ps/2?
maybe bios update to fix problems with the usb (some motherboards had this problem.)
Mr Snatcher Aug 01, 2003, 12:13 PM mouse and keyboard = logitec wireless, both ps/2.
I had win2000 on it and it was fine until I put xp on it.
I no problems with previous board, which was an intel board(forgot modle#)1.7ghz p4. Used same agp ati graphis card same keyboard/mouse
Badidoh Aug 01, 2003, 02:03 PM are u installing the original drivers that came with the mouse/keyboard??
did u try newer ones off the website?
Mr Snatcher Aug 01, 2003, 04:20 PM Windows automatically detects them, I never used drivers with them, I ve reinstalled xp about 5 times on different pc's with the same keyboard/mouse, but i will try the drivers supplied with them.
Van Nugent Aug 01, 2003, 05:01 PM Try setting COM1 and COM2 (if any) in the BIOS to AUTO. If you have nothing connected to these COM ports, just disable them in the BIOS.
One note, though, if your mobo supports I/O APIC (Input/Output Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller), enable it in the BIOS before installing XP. This will give you access to 24 IRQ's (if memory serves me right) instead of the 16 IRQ's that we normally have on systems that don't support I/O APIC. This will reduce the chances of sharing the available IRQ's on the system, a situation that some devices/add-in cards don't like and therefore the system will behave abnormally.
iss Aug 01, 2003, 07:05 PM windows will load whatever compaitable driver it has in its database this does not mean it is the best driver for that particular hardware. as allready suggested you should get the latest drivers from logitech.
also was this a clean install of the OS or did you just swap out the mobo without reformating and installing?
Mr Snatcher Aug 02, 2003, 04:45 PM Thanks everyone, I thought this mobo kinda sucked, but with all your help it works pretty damn good now. Thanks again everyone!
