Hi ppls

Im thinking of getting the above dvd writer. Just wanted to know if this uses the same firmwear and is as good as the pioneer A05.

Nope it isn't as good as the A05. Unless they fixed it recently it will only work with Nero's burning software which is terrible since you will need multiple programs for burning DVDs. The firmware is different from the A05. There isn't much of a pricetag difference so go with the actual A05.

but where can i get propper A05/105 these days.

also if i upgraded the firmware on the drive to the A05 firmware would record now max ext work.

ive just found this page on making this drive into a pioneer 105 and once ive done this would pasi ext work.

I wouldn't mess with firmware as many people kill their drives. If you are looking for the best prices, I bought mine from www.pricegraber.com and compared prices for each store and got the cheapest price.

I am trying to get a consensus on the hacked firmwares to see if they are the culprit of this recent rash of dead DVD Burners that we have had lately.
