when you first bbot up should have green x-box screen come upthen
you should get the various options i.e
dvd and media play ,play games in rom drive, games on hard drove
etc
select dvd and media player
then you get these options
dvd player with controller,
dvd player with dongle remote ¬pal only`
media player
yamp, etc
just enter dvd player with remote and you can navigate through the films with joypad

thats pressuming you have the neccesary software on your x-box.

that was well put and also make sure that if you are using backed up dvds that the media is compatible with your xbox. The originals should not present a problem if you have the right programs installed and the remote is not necessary with the right programs installed

As mentioned above you will need DVD X 2 or the DVD Kit in order to play DVD Movies on your XBOX. As for why Evox won't reboot to the MS Dash I'm not really sure. Maybe you should try picking up a newer version of Evox.

Search google for DVDx, v2.0, and you should find the software for region free DVD playback. You'll have to create a folder on your xbox HDD for the file, and you'll have to edit you evox.ini file, but you'll find loads of tutorials on the net to help you.
If your still stuck, send me an e-mail, and I'll try to help.
As for your MSdashboard, don't know whats up there! But I could compare your system to mine if you send me your details.

OK, think I figured out why you can't access your msdashboard. Again it's to do with your evox.ini file (should be in folder C). Right click file, click edit.
Now make sure you have a line similar to this 6 or 7 line down,
MSDashBoard = "c:\msxboxdash.xbe".

This will only work IF you renamed your original xboxdash.xbe to msboxdash.xbe, like all the good tutorials told you to!

When you've done this, click on file, and save. Reboot and away you go.

Hope this helps!

Ok, but I have to assume you know nottin', that way I'll go through it step by step. No dis-respect..........

Connect to xbox using FTP ( i use flashfxp ).
Goto folder C by clicking on it.
You should then see a file called evox.ini, about 4 or 5 files from the top.
Highlight the file by clicking on it with the left button on your mouse.
Now, with your mouse pointer on the highlighted file, click your right mouse button. An options menu will open.
Left click on Edit, 6th option down. The file will open into text editor, and now you can edit the file. ****BE VERY CAREFUL**** You can make a real mess of you xbox here, so be CAREFUL!!!
Find the line that starts with:
MSDashBoard ( this line tells your xbox where to find your original dashboard file )

From what you describe, I suspect your line looks like this:
MSDashBoard = "c:\xboxdash.xbe"

If that is correct, there's your problem!

Now IF you RE-NAMED your original xboxdash.xbe file, as part of setting up evolutionx, WHAT name did you use?
Most people use msxboxdash.xbe, did you?
If you didn't, it gets awkward. If you did, then do the following.
Left click on the line, just before xboxdash.xbe, and type in ms, now the line should look like this: MSDashBoard = "c:\msxboxdash.xbe".

Left click on File, at the top of your window, and left click on Save.
Left click on File again, and left click on Close. A small window will open saying: "Click on OK when ready to upload edited file".
Do so. Now reboot your xbox.
Now try to launch your MS Dashboard.

If this works, you owe me a beer!!
If you didn't rename your original xboxdash.xbe file, don't worry, all is not lost! Let me know how it goes.
