jesterrace777 Aug 13, 2003, 08:02 PM E-Buyer and Bigpockets seem to have the worst track record of any UK sites. SVP comes pretty highly recommended for computer stuff.
Dave2986 Aug 14, 2003, 06:04 PM ebuyer are great untill they dont have somthing in stock, you have to return somthing/ you have next day delivery
its probley a 85% chance of not having a problem
IMO, if the price difference from other shops is only small and they have better customer service then just go for them
jesterrace777, SVP only sell media and a few CDRW / DVDR drives m8
thrillseeker1 Aug 14, 2003, 07:55 PM Thanks for the replies.
Iv decided not to purchase the bluetooth dongle from ebuyer. However through the link provided by paul_31, iv found another website, savastore.com, which is doing the same dongle for a slighly less price.
Anyone dealt with savastore.com?

Yep, as Dave said exactly.
I use them all the time and they are great, even the return situation has improved a lot over the last few months. But........ Always make sure you are ordering items that they have a lot of stock of! Buy something showing 5 or 6 of in stock and you may run into trouble because by the time your order goes through that 5 or 6 might have been taken up by somebody else and Ebuyer don't bother to tell you and keep you waiting for the next 2 weeks until they get more stock! grrrrrr
Where else though can you buy from such a vast range at less than trade prices???
Nowhere is where! ;)

lazza this is what i find amazing no where elses, in the uk, sells a vast range of computer hardware at a good price
the uk really needs another big online shop
thrillseeker1 Aug 15, 2003, 12:41 PM Savastore seemed to have competitive prices and plus they have a store in Luton where you can collect your goods in person.

I can tell by Lazza's experience, that hes been a long time eBuyer customer :)
But I always found that eBuyer will email us when items are out of stock, and if my memory serves me correct, we normally get email the same day, inform that the item are out of stock and removed from the order, and at random, get free shipping on next order.
My personal experience with eBuyer had been 99% spot on, except the odd one or two delivery delay.
As for returns, we been somehow lucky as only 5 or 6 returns in 2 years, they do take time, but we always get the credit, on one occasion, I forgot about a box of returns, and 75 days after created the RMA, I took the chance and send back to EB, amazing as it may sound, 3 days later I got a credit note :)
But I am sure this does not happen normally
I do not work for EB, and I sure dont work for Scan, just sharing my experience of using online eshops, think in 2-3 years, Scan and Eclipse came rock bottom, is Eclipse in Coventry still in business ?
Dwhitt Aug 17, 2003, 03:47 PM I've used Savastore a number of times and found them to be excellent. In particular if you buy their range of Aries components I found that they ship named brands. eg I ordered an Aries HDD and got a Western Digital.
I havn't had to return anything but have got through on the telephone system, which I believe ebuyer don't have. Well reccomended!

m8 I really don't think that aires have a hard disk factory turning out high class electronics, you buy a hard disk its going to be one of 4/5 makes
you do sometime get lucky buying ebuyer stuff (e.g PSU) and I think their hard disks are Maxtor ones :)
snake121 Aug 20, 2003, 04:09 PM Have you tried Microdirect. Used Ebuyer alot but the returns take an age to sort out.
Been using Microdirect for a while now and have had no problems at all with them, either sales or returns.

dvd-rip Aug 22, 2003, 04:51 AM ive used ebuyer alot and found them to be really good.

Jazzie83 Aug 25, 2003, 12:42 PM Ive never had any problems with them... They seem like a good company
colhse Sep 22, 2003, 12:41 PM I have been following the threads on EEK!!!!!-BUYER and can only agree that their Customer Services Support.....isn`t and they don`t.
I bought a digital camera with a free memory card, the shine was taken off my new toy when I realised that they had sent the wrong system memory card, mind you I suppose it was free ! but! not hassle free!!!.
Lots of EEKnotes later and many "Please accept our sincere apologies for any annoyance and inconvenience caused by this issue" I still await the correct card. If you have lots of time on your hands call their Customer Service number 08704670753, I`ve called it loads of times, never got anyone yet! not even a Bl***y machine, thanking me for my call.
If anyone has a contact number for them that someone answers, I would be really grateful, the MD would be spot on. then I could tell him the publics perception of EEK-BUYER...its on the internet with its head in the clouds and its other end dumping on its customers!!. I cannot argue that their goods are cheap but then again so is their talk..... Get the picture ? no...no memory card!!!!.
colhse Oct 07, 2003, 05:51 PM Just thought I would keep you all( all those who are interested, that is) up to date on the memory card saga. I still have not got one and its been over a month, despite eeknote and emails. Promised the earth and got sod all. If I finally get a card I`ll let you know. A previous member advised to make sure they had stock before you order...I have a better idea... go somewhere else..it`s not worth the hassle !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cameo Oct 07, 2003, 06:24 PM If they sorted out their customer service side of things, employed a few more people on the phones. Ebuyer could be the best place to buy anything from. I still think they suck atm.
colhse Oct 09, 2003, 02:35 PM In all things I am a great believer in balance, if you are willing to offer criticism you should also offer praise. To that ends at long last the correct memory card arrived after much gnashing of teeth, endless emails and countless eeeknotes !!. I can only agree with Cameo ; EBuyer would be the best if they sorted out their non-existent customer services.
Should you feel the same please write to the Managing Director :

I am sure he would appreciate constructive criticism, which I think will benefit us all who would wish to use EBuyer without the hassle. If nothing else he will see the strength of feeling. Please make a difference and respond.

If they did that the prices would go up. Ebuyer is a good example of internet companies which keep customer costs down by running a service which is as near fully automated as possible - i.e. less people = less outlay. EasyJet are another excellent example. Where else can you get the stuff cheaper.
This is a pretty new way of doing business so its not too surprising that there are problems with aspects like returns and lack of "customer service", i guess we have to keep the faith while they iron themselves out.
That said ... i've made dozens of orders with them and all fine until my very last before leaving the country - i ordered 3 mobo's and they were all in various states of "used' - they had clearly been delivered elsewhere, returned, tested and then put out for sale again. This was particularly obvious in one case where the drivers disc was fingerprinty, the box had someones shopping list written on the inside and the jumpers on the board were away from their default position.
When i ordered these they were among the last 5 available so thats another word of warning against ordering from the last few (at least in the case of mobo's!). They all worked fine though, in fairness.
I emailed ebuyer about it and they told me to suck it up or send them back for testing and wait 3 weeks for the next delivery. Their customer support is a little stroppy in my experience ...
If i was still in blighty i'd still use them though, cheap and reliable in the vast majority of cases.
