I have a few VHS tapes i would like to backup to S/VCD.
Has anyone got any ideas on what I should be to get a good picture, I currently have a (dated) TV Tuner card and the quality is terrible.
I would be hoping to capture in 480x480 if possible so I can make svcds from my VHS tapes.
Thanks for any input.

I have a relatively cheap 64 MB Gforce card and I'm pleased with the results I get when I capture video tape to turn into SVCD's. It came with WinDVR...I don't use the automatic capturing settings for SVCD's...although it does a good job...I perfer to change the capture settings in order to get better video quality. I think you should check out some of the cards that Gforce makes and see what's best for your budget. I can't remember the exact capture settings I use but if you want them, I'll check them when I get home. Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback, Ive had a quick look round and have found this...
64MB GeForce4 FX5200, AGP 8x,DDR,128Bit,DVI&TV-out £44.99
I take it that DVI means Digital Video In?
If so would this card be suitable for capturing to SVCD?
I have done a search on google but the only things I can find for the card are specs on games and stuff which doesnt really help me out.
Thanks for the feedback again, much appreciated.

This card will not work for you. DVI stands for Digital Video Interface. It is a specification created by the Digital Display Working Group (DDWG) to accommodate analog and digital monitors with a single connector. There are three different DVI configurations: DVI-A, designed for analog signals, DVI-D, designed for digital signals, and DVI-I (integrated), designed for both analog and digital signals. You need a card which specifically states that it has video IN capabilities. I would choose a card which has both analog and digital in capabilities. A word of warning though, if your PC is not powerful enough, your captures will not work out well e.g. freezing, short captures etc. Good luck.
