It seems to be having trouble reading data...

During loading points, or video sequences etc, it pauses for maybe 5 seconds as if it cant read/find the data on the disc and then carries on loading!

It reminds of when my PS2 laser was on its way out, but i thought this didnt happen with Xbox'es as they are PC DVD-Roms. Is this true?

I have mediaplayer on the HDD and play ISO9660 MP3 CD's and VCD's, could these be wearing the laser down?

Do apps like mediaplayer mess with the way an Xbox reads discs (in the eeprom)?

Any advice apreciated.

could be poor quality dvds like bulkpaq or something.

dosnt have to be the laser, although if it is an older box then people did used to tweak the pot to get them to read CD-Rs which might've shortened the life of the laser, but I would say unlikely.

Hi djlins,

Its not the DVD-R's mate, they worked fine before and still do on other Xbox'es.

Its not a tweaked Thompson either, i modded the Xbox myself and its definately a Samsung.
