xxxicethixxx Aug 15, 2003, 01:30 AM do you guys know, because i just bought a new xbox with a samsung drive and i asked the guy if i could return it. He said "dont even think about modding it because if the warranty seal shows that youve opened the xbox, then we wont accept your xbox". If this is the case, is there a method to remove the stickers without messing them up?
SharpSh00ter Aug 15, 2003, 01:51 AM try useing steam or a hair dryair to let the glue come appart from the label, now carefuly i mean carefuly peal back the label , to make it look untuch put tape on the end of the tork driver so u dont get the scruw all mest up, when your done just reheat the label, an it will look like a new xbox that has never been touch.
if u see the same guy when u return it walk away. same thing happend to my friend an he got busted, they open the xbox up an check the sireal from the mobo to see if the dvd drive was the same sirial as the mobo an it wasent, havent seen him in about 2 moths lol. that realy sux.
xxxicethixxx Aug 15, 2003, 01:57 AM damn, that sucks. Which store did he buy the xbox from?
Psychonaut Aug 15, 2003, 04:05 PM No good. I recently removed the large silver microsoft sticker with a hair dryer and when I put it back it left a chess board pattern where i pealed it
(it was a v 1.2 LE green xbox FYI)
xxxicethixxx Aug 15, 2003, 09:36 PM damn, there has to be a way
SharpSh00ter Aug 16, 2003, 12:12 AM the new green ones do that, m$ figured that out, but if u have a gray silver stiker is all right, v1 or v1.1, i did it an it was all new an they dint tell me nothing, just take it back to another wm.
i warn u again do not bend the stiker if u heat the glue enought it should just slide out if u jigle it side to side.
OvAZ kLocKz Aug 16, 2003, 08:20 PM anybody tried this with controller? putting the old controller in the package and returning it.
freakit Aug 16, 2003, 08:31 PM the PS2 is really easy to do. the problem with the xbox is its hard to get the seal on the box off without it looking like it was removed.
xxxicethixxx Aug 17, 2003, 12:31 AM yay, i just returned it back without a problem. They just checked to see if the numbers on the xbox matched with the box. They didnt even bother opening up the xbox to check the seal.
Devil-Man Aug 17, 2003, 03:56 PM told ya man
xxxicethixxx Aug 17, 2003, 06:02 PM thanks for your advice
heyimnotinthis Aug 17, 2003, 07:55 PM Why...wats is wrong if the xbox has a samsung drive?
Mothumos Aug 19, 2003, 04:18 PM He probably just bought it to take the drive out. People like that should get beaten up.
Mr Snatcher Aug 19, 2003, 04:49 PM lol...What bunch of theives:laugh:
jesterrace777 Aug 19, 2003, 05:52 PM And we are ones to talk :D
Mothumos Aug 20, 2003, 04:48 PM He didn't have to buy it just so he can take the drive out and then return it so that the store now has to take a loss to re-sell it. This is one of the reasons some stores are now not selling xboxes. All he had to do is buy better media!
Devil-Man Aug 21, 2003, 04:40 AM how is it a loss to re-sell it? somebody buys it not knowing any better. the xbox still does it's every day functions without a glitch. the end-user is not affected in any way. how's that bad? we just know how to beat the system, get what we want, take no names, and ask for none in return. dog eat dog world, but in this case, nobody's hurt or out anything.

Obviosuly you don't know what stores do to returned electronics, specially the Xbox since MS doesn't take units from stores, even though people take some back claiming to be defective. Stores either have to sell them with a loss at their stores, or sometimes they sell them to re-sellers who sell them as "used" status. But once they are returned, stores cannot sell them as new. When mod chips were causing a huge amount of xboxes to break, many people tried to take them back to stores and when stores tried to take them back to microsoft, microsoft knew it was modchips who was causing this and began to tell stores that MS will no longer take back their systems and they told stores that no 1 xbox has ever been defective because they are tested before they leave the factory, therefore many stores just started to stop selling xbox, such as toys R us and some others. This was along time ago too.
Even if the xbox was to be sold as new, I would not want to pay new price on a xbox which was opened and messed. I'm sure nobody would, so instead of ruining it for stores and buyers, why not just buy better media, or are you just an A55hole?
Mr Snatcher Aug 21, 2003, 04:42 PM Better media will make a difference, but the thomson and phillips drives are crap, so the media wont make those drives as good as the samsung. Probably the reason why M$ changed to that drive, but I wouldnt like to buy a new xbox with a drive that was changed, so I can see the reason why he would want to change the drive to a samsung. But at the same time, that still doesnt make it right to change it and return it. If he can get away with it, cool. If you buy something that you know has been tampered with, then take it back right away.
Devil-Man Aug 21, 2003, 11:42 PM mr mothumos.
if you do your theiving properly, nobody knows the difference. just for you info i've done this myself, and saw the guy put the xbox back in the glass case HIMSELF. don't tell me they won't sell at full retail, buddy.

So are you telling me that after you did your thieving and got your refund, you waited around until someone came to the service desk, and then you followed them all the way to make sure he put it back on the shelf to be re-sold? Thats highly unpracticle because they would need a long time to check the item and then a long time to set it back into the box into new looking status. The box itself has stickers on both ends and the only way to look inside would rip part of the cardboard layer which would look as if someone opened it, and then to tape it back up they usually just use the clear take they have around, anyone who is shopping for an xbox would see that the box has been opened if they look at it. I would never buy a box that looks as if it's been opened.
Mothumos Aug 22, 2003, 01:53 PM You guys are just going to make it harder for people who really do have to return something for a real reason. Don't think stores are going to stay stupid like that. Eventually they will make refunds harder, just like cicuit city is now doing. They ask for your name and all your info, they even ask for your drivers license. They write it all on a computer. If many people do like you guys keep doing this, more stores are going to do this on refunds watch, or they just won't refund certain items once opened, like they do with games.

really?? then why does circuit city have those commercials on "no questions asked" when doing a return? :-P
Brandogg Aug 22, 2003, 11:54 PM I haven't seen one of those commercials in a long time. Anyway, what you're doing is wrong. Think about the kid that knows nothing about modding, that buys the Xbox, and it doesn't work. They try to take it back, but the warranty is voided cause you opened it up, so they're screwed.

said some dumb **** back then, must've been drunk :)
blanes Nov 29, 2003, 06:10 PM wot a parasitic looser u r devil-man & the other turds that would buy a xbox then "steal" the samsung drive if it had one.... some poor shmuck does get burnt by yr lazy indifference...
If I bring my shite-box old 73 morris minor over to your place and swap it for your new chevvy or whatever you'd be pi$sed off... it is stealing and u can riddle me this that or whatever ... it doesn't change it....
I am surprised to read this here.... I think most blokes are decent but you and other like u DO get yr rewards in the end.... the wheel of life turns !
I think this goes too far ! gives all hackers a really BAD name :(
handyguy Nov 29, 2003, 06:27 PM If you pay with a credit card its connected to your receipt.
btw, any store can limit how many things you can return. I think a adult going in looking nice & talking nice has a great chance.
dcsurfer Nov 30, 2003, 06:02 PM well, it is pretty low down to swap out dvd drives.it all comes down to morals. you have alternatives... you can pick up a modded samsung 616t for around 60-90 or an orignal brand new 605b for 80 shipped overnight via fed-ex.
xbox drive quality order:
1: samsung
2: phillips (contrary to belief these drives arent that bad)
3: thompson (these drives suck, though i have had 1 that played cheap dvd-r, the others required good media... verbatim dvd-r work flawless with all drives)
hooddown Nov 30, 2003, 07:43 PM i have return so far like 3 ps2 using that same old serial swap method now and it all come a success :Ds... best thing of all is return it at night, don't go in the noon or evening, during at night, those custmer service employee are very lazy :Ds...
I remember last time i return a cd-r burner, they didn't even call down an electronic person to check the content of it which they ussally do when i came in to return it around noon...
what i'm waiting now is until walmart start to sell those daul format dvd-r burner then get one and switch it with my old cd-r burner hahaha :Ds...
I will give yah my result when walmart is selling one :)

wow thats just plan wrong. what if they check it this time? what are you gonna say? oh i cheating walmart was illegal?
if you like to risk something like then then go ahead no one can physically stop you. but its so morally wrong.
handyguy Dec 01, 2003, 06:42 PM I recall a guy who brought his tv back in the box, said there was no tv in it just a phone book when he bought it,they opened the box & found a phone book & it had his numbers written in it but they accepted it.
EnvyCell Dec 03, 2003, 02:52 AM hahaha thats just plain stupid. well okay. i should give it a try to. oh my friend tried to do the whole buy a game from a store that has a game that is on sale then returning it to walmart for full price with out a reciept. he said he has problems now due to change of policy. i think he said he's gonna take advantage of the whole holiday thing when christmas hecktics rolls around. maybe you should do soemthing messed up on that time of the year.
handyguy Dec 03, 2003, 10:48 AM Btw, if you're curious, there is a thing called "theft by deception", which is a legal charge. Receipts are tied to your credit card if you used one.
Aeleven Dec 23, 2005, 01:38 PM Yesterday I returned a PS2 slim and got my Money back :) , The girl at the counter was new , so asked the manager to check it out. The manager came over ,gave me a suspious look, took my reciept , took out the controller and the PS2 slim, compared the serial on the receipt to the serial at the bottom of the PS2 slim and looked at the void sticker. He then walks over to the girl and tells her that she can return my money. :luxhello:
What he didnt know was that right after i bought the PS2 slim, i used a hair dryer and carefully heat the void sticker and pushed it down so i could get to the screw. Took out the guts from the new PS2 and replaced it with the old guts of a broken PS2 that i got from a friend that was going to throw it away. The only trouble i had was the 1st Gen of PS2 slim had a crappy phone line card ,it prevented the case from closing, i unscrewed the screws holding the card and i ripped it off. After i got the broken guts in, i closed the case without any problems, heated the sticker and pushed it up carefully. Last, i cleaned up the glue from the stupid void sticker.
So i got a new PS2 slim plus the guy was so worried about the console that he didnt look at the powersuppy, i kept it along with the cd/manual just in case he noticed, but no he didnt. in the bag that held the powersuppy i just put the electric cord. I think it went smoothly too, becuase there was a line behind me. If anyone wants to bash me for what i did then F you and F
WALMART(satan's store of choice) :furious:

Thats why you always pay cash, only an idiot whould pay with check or credit card. Never use your credit card to steal thats like leaving your real address with them.
