I have 2 xbox's (unmodded) that I tried to do the exploit trick on that went horribly wrong. 1 Xbox has a default.xbe wrong/corrupted/*not working right* and so I cant get into any dashboard and it keeps going into the fix time screen (doesnt load the screen all the way) and keeps resetting. The other Xbox gives me a screen that says "Your Xbox requires service. Please Call Xbox Customer Support." in different languages.

My question is this:

If I was to install a modchip in theese systems could I get them restored to a "Working Condition?" (with Evox/MS dashboard)

and for some advice:

I have no soldering skills whatsoever so I would have to take the systems to a shop. Now I know of 2 places that does mods on systems but Im guessing they're gonna charge me anywhere from $80-$195 for it. (most likely about $120) What I was wondering if you guys think I should take these systems in to get chipped or buy a used system and try the exploit thing one more time?

Thanks for the Help/Advice.....

do u have the original msdash ? i havent try the new no chip exploits but, what i know is that in some way u mestup msdash, im not shure if u could just use another xboxdash.xbe from onother system an replace it, yea i think u could if u get a chip on there, an run evox an put the a ne working xboxdash.xbe back in there.

man if u mest up on the exploits just get your xbox's moded, look in the xbox modchip intallation forum they have some people that do modding for cheap.

I still have the Msdash on the first system I've described, the second system I accidently deleted it.

the xboxdash isn't dependent on the system it's on. but it is dependnent on the files. some older model xboxs had all the system files in the root of c: newer ones have an 'xboxdashdata' folder. as long as it all matches up, it'll work.

so is what sharpshooter said true? If I was to take the dashboard from another system and put it on one of my not working xbox's would it work again? if so then Im assuming I would have to install a mod in my system and run evox cd to do. is that how?

Yes what he said is true, so long as the main xboxdash.xbe file is all you've managed to delete/rename/corrupt, and it matches the kernal version. If you don't know the kernal version on either of them, then you may have more problems (However, one of the main steps involved in the exploits is upgrading to the Live enabled MS dash, so if you did do this on both boxes then they will match each other).

As for trying this again, don't. Get a chip. I hate to be harsh but the exploits really aren't that difficult, honestly. So if you've managed to mess up two boxes already, I would think it's time to admit defeat. I really can't understand where you went wrong. Okay, renaming the wrong file, could happen to anyone, but what I can't understand is you don't rename anything whilst installing the exploits . Which exploit were you trying? If you were using a set of up-to-date fonts and the BIOS loader, there aren't that many places for user error.

I believe I gave you this solution before, but if you've tried to install the exploits, you should have 007AUF or MechAssault lying around. Just boot one or other of them up and load a save that has EvoX in it. Rename the files, reboot, voila.

welll on the xbox that does the time loop thing; I tried to do the mechassault exploit. and I had just about everything working but for some odd reason I didnt get a Launch Menu and Run Dvd Menu. So I had reuploaded the file again and managed to get the Launch Menu but not the Dvd menu. I re-uploaded again several times but it didn't come up. I thought if I was to get the Default.xbe from the 007 AUF and put that one instead of the one that comes with mechassault that it would. but then I got that problem where it wouldnt load up any dashboard but play games. The system was disconnected due to that electric problem and now it just sits there doing the time loop thing.

the kernal version doesn't matter from my experience. i had a 1.0 box kernel 4034 and i've used the same dash now in a 1.1 and a 1.3. both of the new boxs worked flawless with locked hard drive and chip off.

is there any way I could change the dashboard on my system without modding it? I would mod it but the only place I know of is charging $125 for x 2.2. lite.

125 is REDICULOUS!
if you can get the 007 or mech trick to work and swap in some new dash files you should be ok.
