had unit chipped a few months ago. plays all backups on dvd media fine. just tried to play "halo" (friends original) dvd. wont boot up. any ideas. have X2L chip. any ideas? thanks to all

Someone prolly swapped out your original xbox dvd drive with a pc one. a pc dvdrom drive reads all types of media like a champ, but they will not play xbox originals...

Well, I find that unlikely but the easiest way to tell would be to open the DVD drive and tell us if the tray is black or beige. If it's black, then it's probably the original drive.

I think it would be more likely that the drive is just funked up, and probably something that you can't necessarily fix. A lense clean wouldn't make sense as if the laser was going, it probably wouldn't read anything.

If you have had a drive swap, go back to whoever chipped it and demand an original drive.
