My mate is having trouble with his PC and has asked me to have a look at it for him. I’ve just started it up (running Win 98) and it boots up ok to the desktop but there is no icons or Taskbar. There’s just his desktop wallpaper and the mouse arrow, nothing else. You can still hear the Win 98 start up sound. When I press Ctrl, Alt & Delete all that is running is “Ebrr”. I hope it doesn’t need a re-install cos he hasn’t got the O/S Disc or any driver disks. Any help would be much appreciated.

try starting it up in safety mode (press F5)

has he installed any new software / drivers, as that could be causing a problem

Tried in safe mode, just same. Managed to get hold of w98 Disc so gonna do a fresh install. He thinks his young daughter has deleted something off by accident. Thanks for reply.

Are you able to right click on the desktop?

EBRR is Epson's Bi-directional Request Router. It's part of the Epson Status Monitor for printers. It is a background program which passes commands between your printer and Status Monitor. It has been known to cause problems like error windows, Invalid Page Faults, Illegal Operations etc.

I can't tell you for certain if that is the culprit, but it wouldn't hurt to uninstall it and reboot.
