I have a laptop that i use everyday; its not great pentium 2 600 256mb ram; but it has a lovely tft screen.

I am buying a base unit for cheap so my question is; can I use the laptop as the monitor and the computer is the base unit.

Simple answer to your question is a no, the question is not stupid at all, because for years we have been trying to find ways to convert notebook screens from dead notebooks into a standalone monitor, but the cost would be so high that its cheaper to buy a whole TFT panel :)
