paul.higgins Aug 19, 2003, 10:09 AM As anyone else heard that BT and Yahoo are teaming up to launch BT Yahoo!
The Business paper states that the service will cost more than the current broadband, priced at £29.99 but the service will be twice as fast. Trials will start in September and made generally available in November. The paper says the service will include a video jukebox to play high-definition videos, other services will be a personalised digital radio station.
BT Openworld customers will be gradually moved over to BT Yahoo! from September.
:round:
Van Nugent Aug 19, 2003, 10:36 AM I guess that's because of the very successful $29.95/month deal that Yahoo and the telephone company Southwestern Bell have been launching in the US. Does it require a one-year term sign-up as in the US? I have Yahoo DSL also and it is darn fast. My real speed tests show that the downstream speed is 1.5Mbps solid and the upstream is 125-130Kbps. The free modem is a good one too.
BTW, I think this thread should be in CoOp. :)
Lazza Aug 19, 2003, 10:48 AM Moving it there now........
You can't beat 56k though! :D
paul.higgins Aug 19, 2003, 10:55 AM Sorry I've looked around but can't find out if you have to sign into it 4 one year, http://www.btopenworld.com/announcement/faq gives some information to people who already use BTOpenworld.

Uranus Aug 19, 2003, 11:23 AM Where does it say about it being twice as fast? to me it reads they are just joining up with yahoo and changing the name from bt openworld to bt yahoo. and yahoo will provide content that nobody will use anyway.
5. How will this affect the price I pay?
This will not change. Our broadband and narrowband prices will stay the same. However, you'll receive an improved internet experience with compelling new applications and content.

Uranus Aug 19, 2003, 12:48 PM What's the paper called? my dad is a manager with bt and gets the bt today paper, and there is nothing in the august edition of that about it.
Dave2986 Aug 19, 2003, 01:41 PM hopefully so, if BT drops their prices, so will cable, but they will undercut BT :D

It's just the frustrating wait now til Nov. :hdspin:
Uranus Aug 20, 2003, 01:30 PM Lazza, if you're waiting for bt openworld? then phone them and ask for an eariler date. their waiting list is bullshit. ;) if you say nothing then you will wait until that date. i got mine fitted in a few days after phoning them.
emailrob Aug 23, 2003, 06:09 AM but you can't get around the actual activation date, I think that is what Lazza (as am I) waiting for. Come on end of October
whooooshshhshshs
Uranus Aug 23, 2003, 01:11 PM Did you try phoning them though? i didn't have to wait at all for an activation date. :) joined online>>got the letter about waiting ages>>phoned them up and the guy came a few days later and it was on. :) maybe it was because my old man worked for them i don't know. but i was a happy camper anyway.
paul.higgins Aug 23, 2003, 05:51 PM emailrob r u talking about 'trigger dates' when u say 'Come on end of October'?
For all u city people try the links below (they r alot of people who still can't get ADSL).
http://62.172.198.79/broadband1/where_i_live/index.asp
http://62.172.198.79/broadband1/where_i_live/trigger_levels.asp?region=6
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/availability/btprereg.asp?order=trig
Not everyone lives in the cities/large towns so we have to wait, and play catch.
Jazzie83 Aug 25, 2003, 11:58 AM sdsl is what its called... At the moment there are only trials in certain ares such as london and manchester etc
emailrob Aug 26, 2003, 08:49 AM yes Paul, that's what I mean. My date is set for late October, I have my ISP ready, so just waiting for BT to do their stuff (slow as ever).
