Why would you want a 2x writer when 4x writers are so cheap now? Only about $20-$30 difference between a 2x and a 4x. The best deal I've seen on a 2x DVD-R writer was $140+shipping on the Toshiba from Tigerdirect.com However you can find a 4x Pioneer 105 for $160 shipped from www.allmediaoutlet.com and the dual format (- and +) 4x Pioneer 106 for $190 shipped. 4x media is coming down in price on a regular basis while 1x/2x media is staying about the same. BTW it would help if we knew where you were from (i.e. US, UK, ect.)?

No he said writers in his first post so he must've just picked up the 104. I hope he got a really good deal on it.

Well,it just seemed strange,he asks for the best price at 6:30 and at 9:54 he says he has one! That is the reason for asking my question! If,you see what I mean!

Yeah I agree. It does seem odd that he asked the question and then went ahead with the purchase before we responded. The question still stands though Anddos, how much did you pay for the second hand 104?

3 and a half hours is plenty of time for ebay or online buying.

True but it does seem odd to ask for our help and then go ahead and buy something before we respond.

livewarehouse.com usually has the best deals, dul format Optorite 4x, a rather decent item, is $150, free shipping & no tax I think

That is an awesome deal for a 4x dual format drive. Isn't the optowrite a relabeled drive though? (i.e. Cendyne=Pioneer)

newegg.com has 106's for $185 shipped. It might be worth the extra $35.

I don't know who makes the optorite but there are a few users on it on fatwallet.com & they seem to enjoy it. But at 150 I doubt you get software.

Oh,and 1 more thing. The drive uses Sanyos technology, but is NOT made by Sanyo.I think Samsung just announced their drive with the same specs, including HD burn.

So the Optowrite is a relabeled Sanyo which is a relabeled Samsung? Man this relabeling concept has gotten out of hand.

No,Samsung is also selling a unit with the same specs.I don't know if they rebadge it,or as Opto does use Sanyos patents on their drives. As you may remember Burn-Proof was a Sanyo development. But as all of us know, you can not tell, who makes what drive for sure, anymore!

Yup anyone who owns a Cendyne knows this quite well.
