Rebates are in jeopardy " copyright Aug 20, 2003, 01:36 PM Why, They're going outa buisness? jesterrace777 Aug 20, 2003, 04:02 PM Whew!!!! Glad I got my replacement Cendyne 105 already. If the thing turns out to be defective, I'm SOL though. :( handyguy Aug 20, 2003, 05:49 PM Ah, stories: "Wednesday, August 20, 2003 Today's Orange County business briefs CenDyne forced to sell inventory at deep discounts Santa Ana-based CenDyne Inc . , which shut down Monday after disagreements between the founders and a major investor, " http://www2.ocregister.com/ocrweb/ocr/search.html?ul=&ps=20&np=0&q=cendyne copyright Aug 20, 2003, 10:53 PM Damn it, can anyone paste the news story into here, I dont wanna register and recieve more spam just to read one story... Van Nugent Aug 20, 2003, 11:04 PM Members please do not copy and paste the whole stories from other Websites here as it will violate copy rights and we do not want such thing to happen. copyright Aug 21, 2003, 02:12 AM Not if you put the source of the information... Ah whatever....Text gets copied everyday cant see why you jump on this particular one... Van Nugent Aug 21, 2003, 04:59 AM It depends on the author. I do not jump on anything. As a mod, I have the responsibility to keep this forum clean and free of troubles. Anyway, I have the rights to jump on anything that's inappropriate. What's now? 420 Aug 21, 2003, 08:53 AM Just a little tidbit which gives you the reason why they're going broke and why they're shutting down ... properly quoted and credited to the article author of course. :D TAMARA CHUANG of The Orange County Register says: Ruling forces CenDyne to shut offices Judge orders computer DVD drive maker to pay creditor Test Rite, which took over operations, $20 million. "We're trying to liquidate the assets of the company for the benefit of the creditors," said Brick Kane, chief operating officer at Robb Evans. copyright Aug 21, 2003, 09:50 AM Alrighty, thnx. handyguy Aug 21, 2003, 11:53 AM I post about a paragraph & a link to the story & thats how it's done these days safely. I know it seems ironic that a forum that discusses how to copy dvds & video games, etc, is concerned about printed copyright :-) jesterrace777 Aug 21, 2003, 02:51 PM Yeah well rules are rules. Getting this shut site down wouldn't be to anyones advantage so we will just have to deal with it so we can stay open. Van Nugent Aug 21, 2003, 09:15 PM That's right and we try not take articles from sites that require registration. I felt something fishy about Cendyne last year when it took more than 4 months with numerous phone calls to them to get my $30 rebate on a CDRW that I bought. jesterrace777 Aug 22, 2003, 04:45 AM Yeah it took me 4 months to get my Rebate for my burner as well. Still an awesome deal at the time I bought it though. handyguy Aug 22, 2003, 11:19 AM It looked weird to me that they were giving such big rebates. Usually that's a clue that has to do with the company finances. jesterrace777 Aug 22, 2003, 02:25 PM True even though they were relabeled, I can't see how Cendyne was really making any money off of it's relabeled Pioneer Burners. handyguy Aug 22, 2003, 06:59 PM Doesn't look to me as if they made enough. They should rethink their business model :-) jesterrace777 Aug 23, 2003, 12:07 AM Well they won't be able to now since they are gone. handyguy Aug 24, 2003, 12:40 PM staples is now discounting their stuff in store. You'd have to ask the manager how long staples would honor the guarantee. jesterrace777 Aug 24, 2003, 01:30 PM Thanks for the Update handyguy I will pass it along. jeepers94 Aug 24, 2003, 05:55 PM My Cendyne 105 rebate came in under 3 weeks. One of the fastest Staples rebates I have seen.Hope other rebadgers don't follow.Competition helps keep the prices down! jesterrace777 Aug 25, 2003, 12:03 AM No kidding. I still laugh at the people who try to claim that the namebrands are better. How so when it is the exact same unit and you pay less for it  Van Nugent Aug 25, 2003, 12:27 AM Yep m8, I got an I/O Magic burner which is a rebagged Lite-On but at $40 less AR. Just do a little research on what you are gonna buy and save lots of money, your hard earned money that is! handyguy Aug 25, 2003, 11:33 AM Staples is quick with their rebates, yes. Cendyne on the other hand, no. If you get a staples rebate it comes as a postcard. jesterrace777 Aug 25, 2003, 03:56 PM My Cendyne rebate also came as a post card. . . . . .3 months after I bought it. DCDude Aug 25, 2003, 05:08 PM Been 4 months and no rebate from Cendyne on my 105. Guess I can quit waiting now. handyguy Aug 25, 2003, 06:23 PM The store should pay the rebate if they won't. Assuming you got it from a major store, Staples, office depot, etc. jesterrace777 Aug 26, 2003, 02:06 PM Speaking of which has anyone found any good deals on the Cendyne burners since this announcement? DCDude Aug 26, 2003, 04:42 PM Originally posted by handyguy The store should pay the rebate if they won't. Assuming you got it from a major store, Staples, office depot, etc. Got mine at a local Fry's. Next time I go I'll ask them whats up. jeepers94 Aug 26, 2003, 05:00 PM Speaking of which has anyone found any good deals on the Cendyne burners since this announcement? .................................................. .................................................. ................. In a couple of other forums, people are picking up the Cendyne 105 for $125 at Staples b&m.Like always,it depends on the store. Some have them, mine doesn't! handyguy Aug 26, 2003, 07:08 PM Yes, I mean I saw other people getting deals but it seemed to be city based in Staples stores. $119.00 for their 4x writer. That is in store, don't count on it online. Matter of fact for a couple of months the Staples in my area has their 52x (Or was it 48x?) cdwriter for $18 in store only. Take the dvdwriters out of the case for a price scan. Then laugh when you see the look on the face of the clerk as they find out the price is $100 better than what it was in the case. Do the same at office depot. They cleared out their memorex dvd writers for $79 & sony 500ax's for $140 a month ago. handyguy Aug 27, 2003, 12:42 PM Here is one Staple deal: 1 CENDYNE 4X INTERNAL (683728002091) 125.50 SUBTOTAL 125.50 Staples Coupon NO. 96658 -20.00 12% Associate Discount -12.66 Standard Tax 8.10% 7.52 TOTAL: $100.36 skip that 12% part jesterrace777 Aug 27, 2003, 01:46 PM Doesn't that coupon only apply to phone orders though? handyguy Aug 27, 2003, 05:51 PM No, it was a customer appreciation day coupon. jesterrace777 Aug 27, 2003, 05:59 PM So it was only good for one day then? handyguy Aug 28, 2003, 11:14 AM No, it was weird. Like aug 14-18 & 22-24. Dunno what happened to 18 to 22. handyguy Aug 29, 2003, 07:21 PM Now the banks are returning their checks too & you have to pay the return check charge. Which is kind of the opposite of a rebate. jesterrace777 Aug 30, 2003, 03:19 PM Yikes. How lame to have a rebate that actually costs you money. handyguy Aug 31, 2003, 12:00 PM Now they say they have money for the rebates so you can resubmit them & risk yet another return charge :-) jesterrace777 Aug 31, 2003, 03:21 PM Man am I glad I bought my drive from them earlier on in the year. Other than the fact that the rebate took forever they were always good to me. Within a matter I recieved my replacement drive about a week after they recieved it. Most returns take quite a bit longer. DR69ON Sep 01, 2003, 08:51 AM Well if a Cendyne can burn you at least 500 DVDR, then 120 Dollar for one is a very good investment. I also got mine a long time ago when it retail for 300 (with coupon and rebate about 200) and from that point to now, I was able to burn at least 300 DVDR and more to come. So 120 is a really a good price in term of protential output handyguy Sep 01, 2003, 11:47 AM DR69ON, did you use official firmware? |
