What software are you using for :
1 Ripping
2. Compressing
3. Burning
When you copy the copy describe how/what settings etc.
Also what media are you using ?

firstly i would try different media, as freezing is normally because of unsuitable discs.

to copy a copy, I usually drag & drop the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders to my hard drive (I only have 1 DVD drive) then put in a blank, using Prassi Primo DVD i drag the 2 folders in on a data project and burn it.

As PhilEnfield said we need to know what software you are using. You definitely don't want to be burning on the fly as that just increases your chances for error during a burn.

Best method I have found for doing a 1:1 of a backup is to put it in your dvd writer, load of DVD Decrypter and extract it to your HDD as an ISO, then just burn it back on Ritek media with either RecordNow Max or DVD Decrypter, always works for me.
