Lazza Aug 22, 2003, 09:50 AM Having a few heat problems with a 2600 XP+ chip and my Thermaltake Volcano 7+ Hsk at the mo and just ordered one of these:-

Anybody run one already and have any thoughts on it good or bad?
Dwhitt Aug 22, 2003, 02:44 PM Not sure where I read it, possibly PC Advisor (July) or latest Comp buyer, but the upshot was it's not a bad cooler when it's running at full speed - apart from the noise, very noisy - it was likened to a jet engine (which in effect it bears a close resemblance to a turbo fan!!!!). If you turn the fan speed down then it's quiet but doesn't do a good job of cooling.
Dave2986 Aug 22, 2003, 03:03 PM Lazza, read loads of reviews on it a while back and it always did good, but i dont know anyone with one

Like Dwhitt said, if you have it at a low setting then it wont be as good (by about 4-5 c) so it all depends on how loud you want to go
im runnign an GlacialTech Igloo 2500 pro at 5V, and getting 51 under a very heavy under load, for £8
you were had with that price though seen it at £24 i think on ebuyer last week, and for £35ish you could of got an SLK-800
and i think this is the first time i have EVER seen you post a qustion lol
Lazza Aug 22, 2003, 04:53 PM No m8, I am never had with the price! :D
I paid £22 for it @ ebuyer, I just linked to that site due to nice pics. lol
Funny about the noise issue, most test reviews say it is much quieter than most other performance coolers. Hey, anything is quieter than a Volcano 7+ though so... :)
hollie.weimeraner Aug 22, 2003, 05:18 PM I just found the review - it's in Oct issue of Comp Buyer - they rate it as 2/6 (star system). They say it's very noisy at 3,500rpm but cools well. Very quiet at 1900rpm but the cpu got very hot - they don't provide any figures though which is a bit poor.
hollie.weimeraner Aug 22, 2003, 05:19 PM Just an afterthought - keep us updated when you fit it - I was looking at theses a couple of weeks ago and couldn't decide. Cheers
Dave2986 Aug 22, 2003, 05:31 PM i really would not trust 99% of any pc mags reviews, their out of date, and dont tell you any information about the test setup or results
2/6 is WAY off
Lazza Aug 23, 2003, 03:05 AM Thanks, just came in the post so will fit it later....... that's if it will fit in my case, and I've got an 8 bay server tower!!!
The thing is flaming massive!
I'm gonna have to remove my sound absorbant foam in one section from the side panel just to have a chance of getting it in there.
There were problems with early versions of this cooler and an electical component running at low speeds so maybe the review was based on that.
Lazza Aug 23, 2003, 07:41 AM What a swine to fit, way too close to my memory slots on an Asus A7V333 board but got it in somehow.
Well after a Volcano cooler this one is almost silent even at top speed, going by SiSoft Sandra it's 48 degrees at idle compared to 57 with my previous one. The board does seem to give out higher temp readings though when compared to others.
So far so good! :)
JET_PILOT Aug 24, 2003, 04:56 AM Do you think it would fit in a Thermaltake Xaser III
let me know
cheers JET_PILOT
Lazza Aug 24, 2003, 09:21 AM Yeah it should fit fine m8, I had plenty of case room in the end it's just the unit looked so damn big in it's packaging. As I said the one problem I had that my first memory slot on my Asus board was so close to the chipset.
