ThePRedicatez Sep 05, 2003, 12:45 AM i keep getting errors and is there a program out there that forces uninstallations??? or any other way i can get this uninstalled
the errors i am getting are
Error1722
There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.
Fatal error during installation
i even did this http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/default.asp?siteID=1&cnrcheck=done&resolution=1024x768
i didnt have half the files they were telling me to delete so i stopped...please help as i need t get version 7 installed
Darkman Sep 05, 2003, 03:32 AM Just delete the whole directory it's installed in. Then download and run RegClean (download.com.com/3000-2094-881470.html?tag=list ) and remove all the registry items for it. After that your system will be clean enough to install the new version of Mcafee
gamehunter Sep 05, 2003, 06:16 AM If i understood your post correctly, you are trying to uninstall, and keep getting the install message while the errors occur. If you have the install program, reinstall it, then uninstall. Something got deleted that it needs to run the uninstall program.

Why did you stop just because you didn't have some of the files?
If you had all the files, then you could just uninstall it, couldn't you?:blockhd:
No one on this forum can tell you where to get it. Read the rules.
I can tell you where to go, but not where to get it!
If you don't know where on the net to get one of the top ten most pirated software programs in the world, no one here can help you.
Remove the files listed HERE (http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/displayDoc.asp?docID=68717¶m1=245&PopularFAQ=YES).
If you don't have them, ignore them and remove the ones you do.
I bet after all this, you were just after a later version.
ThePRedicatez Sep 05, 2003, 10:46 AM i tried deleting all mcafee folders but i cant delete one of them, it says file is in use, but when i look into processes (after clicking ctrl+alt+delete) i dont see any of the dll files they mention...ahhhhhhhhhhhh help
gamehunter Sep 05, 2003, 04:52 PM If thats the route you choose to take, go to start, run, and type in msconfig. Choose the start up tab and uncheck anything that has to do with mcafee. Then you must reboot and delete the folder.
Insomniac Sep 05, 2003, 04:59 PM Make sure the file is not marked read only.
Also, try doing it in Safe Mode.
ThePRedicatez Sep 05, 2003, 05:04 PM how do i check if its read only?
ThePRedicatez Sep 05, 2003, 05:11 PM i successfully deleted the mcafee folder but i still cannot add/remove from the control panel it keeps saying installation error...and i cant install mcafee 7 over it b/c i need to get rid of mcafee 6
Insomniac Sep 05, 2003, 05:40 PM Use TWEAKui for windows or System Mechanic. TWEAK UI (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp) for XP or TWEAK UI (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp) for Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows 98 or Windows 95.
SYSTEM MECHANIC (http://www.iolo.com/sm/) for all versions.
Tweak is freeware and unsupprted and is more like a side projevt for M$.
System Mechanic is the better as it not only removes Add/Remove progams, but has a recycle bin called incinerator, which can delete any file, whether it's being used or not! It also scans the registry and removes unused windows and programs files.
ThePRedicatez Sep 05, 2003, 05:59 PM insomniac can you im me aol at biogregg, i have system mechanic i just need some help with how to add/remove programs form the control panel with it...thx
Insomniac Sep 05, 2003, 08:38 PM If you were female, I would IM you, PM you MM you, whatever you liked!
Sorry, but I don't do IM's. It makes me feel so cheap. :)
I don't even use AIM, anyway, the idea of a forum is so other readers can benefit or learn from posts and replies.
Not that this even begins to qualify!
Anyway, it's fun making more than one person reformat.
In system mechanic, on the toolbox, click the middle button, System.
On the fourth selection, click 'remove invalid uninstaller information'.
If nothing is listed there, click view all, highlight and right click the program in question and make the appropriate selection.
If you get stuck on something, just post pack and someone will sort it out for you. I'm about to fomat a pc I've just built, so I'll be on later.
Have fun!
ThePRedicatez Sep 06, 2003, 09:40 AM ok i did was insomniac said above, but when i look at the add/remove programs on the control panel " McAfee Virrusscan Professional Edition - 140mb is still there but now i can't add or remove....
when i try to install virrsuscan 7.0 it says i have another version installed
by the way i have win xp
Insomniac Sep 06, 2003, 12:44 PM Under remove uninvalid......, do any come up with a red exclamation?
There are a few other features as well.
If it's not listed, click the View All button. Highlight and If you select open folder, that will open the corresponding file and or folder in explorer.
What happened when you tried to delete the add remove link in invalid uninstaller??
ThePRedicatez Sep 06, 2003, 01:07 PM there are no red exclamations, when i removed it with system mechanic it just removed automatically like it should when i press remove...
i dont see mcafee when i use system mechanic but i do when i go into contorl panel / add/remove programs...
Insomniac Sep 06, 2003, 01:30 PM Silly question, but did your reboot?
ThePRedicatez Sep 06, 2003, 01:56 PM yes i did reboot
ThePRedicatez Sep 06, 2003, 07:13 PM ok i followed the directions and removed everything mcafee off of my registry, but when i try to install version 7 it says another version is still installed.
it also still shows up on my add/remove programs...ahhhhhhhhhhh
