midnitesky Sep 10, 2003, 08:57 PM Ok.... I see that they do have the wireless controllers, but what I want to know is has anyone heard of a wireless ethernet/lan for the xbox, and if so, who is trying to make it. It would be really nice if you didn't have to run a wire to connect to your lan. And would this in any way effect the W/L controllers?
ghoward Sep 10, 2003, 09:01 PM WoW, good question midnitesky. Have you tried maxtech.com? I think I saw something about that on there site the other day. Good luck
midnitesky Sep 10, 2003, 11:11 PM Well thanks for the point out... I looked it up but it doesn't say anything about wether or not it will affect the controllers or vice-versa
ghoward Sep 11, 2003, 12:56 AM Oh okay midnitesky, I see what you are saying. Let me dig some more into it.
midnitesky Sep 11, 2003, 09:52 AM Well thus far I have not been able to find any info on wether the two are compatible or not... does anyone out there have them and are using them together? Help please... I'm trying to decide if I should get them or not.
vcdseller-uk Sep 13, 2003, 03:40 AM look guys, i bought a wireless ethernet bridge from dabs.com in the uk.
it cost me around £70 and it just connects to the ethernet port on ANY device (xbox, ps2 ect..) and it will connect it to your wifi network.
Mine will be here on monday, so ill know more then, but from what i hear, they work perfectly.. no drivers or anuything needed, as far as the xbox goes it just sees a network as usual.
vcdseller-uk Sep 13, 2003, 03:41 AM ME101 802.11b Wireless Ethernet bridge it is called.
midnitesky Sep 13, 2003, 07:10 AM Thanks... I went to check it out and it's what I was looking for... $78 for us... will order.
vcdseller-uk Sep 14, 2003, 05:37 AM good stuff :) mine will be here 2morrow :) cant wait..
DutchDuc Sep 15, 2003, 01:40 PM I use my wireless connected laptop next to my kids laptop with the wireless Logitech controllers and no disturbance what so ever
DutchDuc Sep 15, 2003, 01:41 PM my kids laptop should be, my kids Xbox, sorry for that!
vcdseller-uk Sep 15, 2003, 05:14 PM aagh!! got my netgear me101 ethernet bridge today... it seems that it is not able to work in ADHOC mode.. it works on infrastructure only.. basically it means if u wanna share files just by using a cheap wifi card on ur pc.. it wont work..
i now have to buy myself a wireless access point.
i have decided to get the linksys access point, has switch/adsl router ect on it..
one thing leads to another...
u guys get ur network working wirelessly yet ?
Memphis Sep 15, 2003, 05:59 PM Just to let you guys know, and those who are interested in wireless networking for there Xbox, Microsoft will be shortly releasing their own Wireless Networking adapter for the Xbox. I can't remember the exact link, but details were leaked by the FCC before MS intended and so they have made it official. I can't remember if it said when it will be out, but it is comming.
vcdseller-uk Sep 15, 2003, 06:58 PM yeah, it is just a 55mbs bridge, u can get them allready, mine is 11mbs, as its cheaper, and will be fine for streaming media to the xbox for tv playing.
i guess ms just will rebrand one with their logo ect..
midnitesky Sep 15, 2003, 07:15 PM Well haven't been able to get to it yet, but from the sounds of it, it looks like I will be ok... I just got the linksys WL G broadband router...has 4 ports plus I should be able to use the netgear me101 very easy.
vcdseller-uk Sep 15, 2003, 07:17 PM http://www.linksys.com/Products/product.asp?prid=157&grid=22
looks like ill be getting that 2morrow
£89 in pc world..
but, the thing is.. will it do what i want?
wanna replace the 10mb hub i got here, with wired ethernet cables to each pc.
ive got 2 wifi cards (usb) for my 2 pc`s, and now my ethernet bridge for xbox.. so i THINK it will work..
anyone know? im new to wifi
midnitesky Sep 15, 2003, 07:28 PM You guys should really check out the differences in the routers before you go get one... like I said I have the G bit with the 2.4GHz range and the 54Mbps... the best range I could get plus the compatability to be used anywhere... would have liked to get the 5GHz one, but has a shorter range... and freedom to roam is a top priority for me.

midnitesky Sep 15, 2003, 09:15 PM Hey VCD... you stated that you have the 11Mbps router and it will work fine... I don't dought that it works good for you, but for those who can't have there system next to there xbox... don't you start to loose the signal the farther away you are from the source... so why not start with the 54Mbps and go down from there instead of the 11Mbps?!?
Stusy Sep 17, 2003, 08:53 AM Thats a bugger, I've got quite a few Aironet 4800 AP's. Now called Cisco 350's as they were bought out by Cisco.
As I work in conjuction with a company called Ensign who are Cisco approved installers I'll have to see what sort of price they could do some bridges for me.
vcdseller-uk Sep 17, 2003, 01:50 PM well, 11mbs was cheaper :) thats all my choice was based on.. and the distance aint far.. just downstairs from pc room, so should be fine..
i got my access point last night (unbranded), spent about 3 1/2 hours trying to figure out why the hell nothing saw it..
eventually at 1230am... with 2 pc`s beside it.. i got the network WIRELESS....
problem was, moving the usb wifi cards connected to the pc more than 1metre or so away from the access poiint, resulted in them losing connection to it.
something obviously wrong with it.
the xbox downstairs didnt see it at all..
ive brought it back tot he comptuer shop, they are going to test it and replace it if faulty..
i wish to F"*% i had of just put cable from my hub to the xbox.. this is ending up to be a very expensive and time consuming/stressfull idea...
anyone else had problems with faulty access points ?
Stusy Sep 18, 2003, 08:27 AM I have seen quite a few faulty wireless access points, but I do repair them for a living so I should do....lol.
Telxon 630's mainly.
not sure I'll bother looking into the wireless option as my whole house is networked.
vcdseller-uk Sep 18, 2003, 12:24 PM yes yes yes!!! it was faulty.. got it replaced.. connected access point to my hub.
turned on xbox.. and it connected and installed updated sware from ms (chip was disabled of course!)
midnitesky Sep 19, 2003, 06:15 AM What is your connection rate?
vcdseller-uk Sep 19, 2003, 07:42 AM about 600k a second or something..
depends if a lot of other bandwidth being used by hub the access point is connected to..
thing is.. every time i run media player on xbox, it just freezes on LOADING...
i need to disconect network for it to work.
ive edited config.xml as much as i can.. changed ip`s .. everything..
i dont know what else to do.
maze Sep 19, 2003, 06:52 PM Dlink makes one, heres the link http://www.dlink.com/products/?model=DWL-810%2b
midnitesky Sep 20, 2003, 01:48 AM VCD... did you every figure out why your media player freezes? Oh I ordered the LINKSYS WIRELESS-G WGA54G GAME ADAPTER... will let you all know how it works when I get it...
vcdseller-uk Sep 20, 2003, 01:51 AM yeah mate, after a lot of research i found out that there is an apparent bug in the EVOX dashboard..
by putting the xbox media player to dvdrw and booting off it, instead of going through the dash.. it works fine, and streams mp3s off my server, although when i went to stream an mpeg it just went black... not sure if thats something at my end or not...
hopefully the next evox will have a fix.. (there was a release today.. not tried it yet )
correct me if im wrong here anyone..
vcdseller-uk Sep 20, 2003, 01:52 AM here are the cards that im using to get my wireless network running btw..
here is what my pc`s have
(one in each)
http://www.netgear.com/products/details/MA101.asp?view=hm
the xbox uses one of these..
http://www.netgear.com/products/prod_details.asp?prodID=175&view=
and the server pc which has the net and all my video and music files connects into something similar to this (cant find one im using online, as it aint branded)
http://www.netgear.com/products/prod_details.asp?prodID=176&view=
the access point above connects into my 10mb hub (which other pc`s used to also connect into.. but are wireless now)
Im only using the hub to connect the access point to the pc because to connect te access point to the server direct would need a cross over network lead.. and i dont have one, so just sending through hub.. makes no difference anyway.
All working great. i think up to 32 wifi devices can connect to my access point.
at present i have not set up security on it properly.. but at the end of the day.. how many people around my area will be using wireless networks?
lol
midnitesky Sep 20, 2003, 01:58 AM hahahaha I hear you on that... in my area however... they have alot of sniffers around.... up to no good is all.... just want to mark all the free access points they can... it's all over the island though so no worries...
vcdseller-uk Sep 20, 2003, 02:01 AM well.. im in n.ireland and down where im at there aint a single access point i was able to find.. so im safe for the moment..
ill enable it in due course.. but now its all working, i dont want to go and F*"$ it up un nessesarily..
u know how these things have a tendency to do that when u least expect it.. :)
midnitesky Sep 28, 2003, 02:33 AM Hey got my Linksys wl G game adapter.... works like a charm.... now all I have to do is try to get the xbox to read my HD so I can watch movies without the wire... I know there used to be a site up for setting up relax and the media player in depth but it's shut down now... arrggghhh, you get one thing fixed then... oh well...
vcdseller-uk Sep 28, 2003, 05:13 AM http://homepage.ntlworld.com/terrymcginnis/guides/A-10-Step-Concise-XBMP-and-Relax-Setup-Guide.pdf
take a look here mate.
i can stream mp3 and pictures to my xbox from my pc`s, but when i try to stream mpeg it breaks up, im not sure if 11mbs is fast enough for streaming movies..
Im SURE it should be... i can upload and download at around 270k a second to my xbox from my pc, which is fast enough for streaming in my opinion,.. but let me know how u get on.
also, can u get ur xbmp to work on ur hard drive when ur on the network?
mine crashes and i got to boot it from a cd..
something to do with a bug on the evox apparently.
doesnt cause problems for most people, but ive read that the odd person like myself has problems..
let me know how u get on..
