Ive just put xp on i tiny pc ..... the pc a on board modem ...now without putting any other software on when i go to the control panel\phones and modems\modems(at this point it say the modem is attached to com port 3)\properties\diagnostics\query modem at this point i get "the port that the modem is attached to could not be opened ,this could be the result of an hardware conflict, check the device manager to verify all devices are functional"
ive check the device manager and the are no conflictions.
the modem is seen in my device manager and there are no conflictions.
when i try to install a ISP it does not see my modem.
i have also tried changing the com port to no avail.
i have also checked the device in the bios.

could it be that i have not installed from the restore disc as it would not install on a new drive and just put the default xp supporting driver in ?

thanks

Go to the BIOS and set the 2 COM ports (COM1 and COM2) to Auto.

Try updating the modem driver with the driver on the drivers CD that came with the mobo.

tried altering the bios com settings but still got no modem found or com port bust.....i got round it by disabling modem in bios and fitting a PCI MODEM

problem sorted
