Hi
I have been using the Swap Magic V 2.0 but have found a few limitations with games that use double boot protection. After certain parts in the game, the PS2 resets asking for PS2 media to be inserted.
If I was to get the playstation chipped;
1: What is the best chip to get, I only want to play PS2 backup CD/DVDR's, not interested in DVD movies.
2: The problems with double boot protection that I am having with the Swap Magic V2.0 am I likely to get the same with the PS2 chipped.
Do all games work on chipped playstations or am I going to run into other problems even though its chipped, like I am having with the Swap Magic 2.
Cheers guys

Messiah 2 and DMS 3.0 are trouble free no swap chips

Yup those are the two with the best track record right now. Lots of problems with the other modchips that are out there so I would stick with these two.

I think you can try the MarsChip 2, it seems very ok based on the info from http://www.modchip-sbox.com/ps2-marsChip2-All.shtml
My PS2 is modifed by a chip called "Apple Chip" long time ago. I have not problem with that. But the Apple Chip is a old chip now. I do not recommend that.
DMS 3 and Messiah 2 are very good chips, but I think they are too expensive. But it is true a lot of people like these 2 chips. My friend installed the DMS 3 too. It work very good on his console (39001 PS2 I think).

I'd go with a popular chip like Messiah2 or DMS3

yep just one more vouch here for the Messiah2 or DMS3 both exceptional and high quality chips, out of those I'd preferably go for the DMS3 but that's an extra penny or 2 and it's really only good if you want dev mode etc;)

I'll swear by the DMS. I have never had a problem booting ANYTHING!!!! 70 back-ups and no problems.

I don't know about you but if I was going to spend the money and/or the time and the effort of putting a chip in I would spend the extra money to make sure that I got a chip that was reliable. After going through the pain of putting a modchip in your PS2 (or spending a bunch of money for someone to do it) it would suck for it not to work properly simply because you couldn't spend an extra $20-$30 to buy a chip that is well known for being reliable. If it works then great, if it doesn't work right then you won't be saving any money at all. Penny pinching isn't wise when it comes to soldering in a chip that affects the functionality of your PS2.
