I bought a Magic 3 modchip about a month ago. I still haven't gotten it installed. Before I do get it installed, I just wanted to know if online games can recognize the chip or not. And I also wanted to know if I should just scrap the Magic 3 and get the DMS3 or do both chips basically do the same thing?

I would always go with DMS3/Messiah2 and such if they are afforable, the Magic chip has a few bugs here and there but is none the less a descent chip, do a search using keywords like "dnas, magic, online, network adapter" etc;)

The Magic3 chip has a bad record, I'd go with the Messiah2 or DMS3.

Agreed. I'd sell the magic chip and spend the money on a Messiah2 or DMS3. If you are going to go through the trouble of soldering why not spend the extra $ to make sure you get a reliable chip and don't have to do things twice. The 2 big advantages that the DMS3 has over the Magic chips is that: 1. It will allow your PS2 to play movies region free (play foriegn films 2. It is flash upgradable. So future copy protection measures that will be put on PS2 games (and yes they do currently have some new measures in the works) can be bypassed by simply updating the DMS3's Bios (similar to a flash upgradable XBOX chip). When you combine that with the reliability record then there is no comparing the Magic 3.1 and the DMS3.
