i was thinking of joining a ftp site, but the thing that get me is their option for a 512mb or 1gb. i am on dsl and i top out at 145kbps. what range should i be in as far as the 512 and 1gb option go. can anyone explain this to me in more detail?

500k, 1000k and then you at 145k. In short, even at the lower 500k, you'd be missing out on a good deal of what you're paying for.

I would definitely go with the 1MB connection. On a good FTP (if a bunch of people aren't on it) I can easily hit 600-700K with my 1MB D/L connection.
