I've downloaded Halo Combat Evolved for the pc which is 686MB from bittorrent. I get a load of files named flt-halo.001 to flt-halo.048 and flt-halo.sfv. I selected them all and went to open and it said 'Choosing 49 items to open may take a long time' Then each file asks me what to open it with individually, so I have 49 tabs on my taskbar.

How do I open them all in winrar?

You only need to open the first one, i.e. 001.

Thanks for the reply, but when I do that it says 'The archive is either in unknown format or damaged' I tried this with some others a while ago and they all said the same thing. They can't all be damaged can they?

Also after I do this the icon changes from an unkwn file icon to one with a little rar icon inside, how do i change it back?

use the sfv file to check if the rars are ok if they are then use the latest winrar to extract the files from the rars. And you'll want to leave the icon as it's associating the files with winrar so that you can open it

The Icon changed because you left the always use this program to open these files option ticked, to change it back just delete .001 from your file type settings.

The files can't be corrupt (bittorrent redownloads corrupt chunks), so I would think it is because your version of winrar is outdated. As said try the latest version.

Similar problem, I have extracted the .001 rar file and for some reason instead of a BIN file it has called itself an AVG.Update (anti virus) file. Obviously when burned in Nero it will not install the game.

Would be grateful for any suggestions.

An AVG update file is a BIN file.

Personally I don't recommend Nero for burning BIN/CUE images.

I've downloaded SFV Checker V1.09 and it has checked all 48 files and it says all files are ok, there is no missing files and no invalid file. I did have WinRar 3 so I upgraded to V3.2 and it still came up with the error 'The archive is either in unknown format or damaged' when I try to extract .001

Hmmm, well I can assure you that it is possible to extract the files using WinRAR v3.2 because I actually just did it without any problems or issues.

As for how to delete .001, go into the file type settings and select .001, should be selected anyway, then click the delete button and select yes. You could also just delete it from your registry.

what's wrong with Nero burning Bin/Cues? I've been using it for a while?

What's a better alternative (although I'd like to minimize the # burning programs on my machine)

That's fine then, keep using it. All I said is that I don't recommend using it.

An alternative would be Alcohol 120%.

Another alternative would be CdrWin.
Unless Im mistaken, I believe they were the first app to support the Bin format to begin with, they may have even invented it.

To burn it, it depends on what software you have.

For nero, open an image and find the CUE file (the "other" one) and tell it to burn it

I did say assuming that you wanted it on a CD.

The CD is not a 1:1 copy, therefor it requires a cracked EXE to run, install the update and goodbye cracked EXE hello one with CD checks.

Better off playing against someone who lives closer to you. Much better pings that way.
