As the title suggest i've got a m8 who's looking to build the best computer that £1000 can buy...

So any suggestions with the hardware/software or advice to look out for?
The computer needs to be able to do anything imaginable (accept take over the world)... Gaming/surfing net/video ripping/video encoding/download p0rn of course/etc...

So what would you stick into this monster of a computer...

Cheers

hummmmmmmmmmmm

super computer = AMD 64 FX ?

Tell him to wait if he can, for a few mouths, and the price of the CPU's and motherboards will of dropped, and their will be more avalible

Not only the price but, socket A is dead, so upgrading past a AMD Anthlon 3200+ wont be possible

IF he cant wait then i would recomend going for a P4

As Dave says AMD 64 FX-51, Otherwise wait til late October for the p4 extreme. Besides early next year they will have ddr2 out = 1000mhz. Better to save money to next year cause he'll probably pissed that he didnt.
