The Smaller the dot pitch, the better the picture quality. I really don't know the difference between Samsung vs. Viewsonic in terms of reliability though.

The Samsung 17" .20 has very high rating. Can't say about the viewsonic unless you tell the model #.

Well, I think consumers' reviews/opions would be more practically helpful in this case. Since ViewSonic has a few 17" models, I don't know which one you want to know.

Samsung do make very good moniters, Id say go for it.

Definitely get the Samsung and DEFINITELY get the flatscreen. The flatscreen makes a huge difference with glare and the overall picture.

ack! those are some high prices. If you know anyone who is a member at Sam's Club, have 'em bring you there. The 17" Samsung flatscreen is $119.98 and the regular 17" is $99.98. Of course, that was 6 months ago so it's likely they're even cheaper now.

Were the monitors the ones with .20 dot pitch though?

I believe mine is a .24 but I didn't opt for the flatscreen (I was being cheap hehe). Sams Club is always cheaper than Best Buy though as it's a members-only warehouse store. :)

Agree with 420 on the cheap prices from Sam's. My GF is a member and if I remember correctly, she said the annual membership fee was 25 bucks. She has a big family and they all share the same card. She said her family saved lots of money from Sam's. Don't know about the quality of the goods they bought from Sams though.

Unless it was a flatscreen monitor though, I wouldn't bother. I didn't think that there would be that much difference between a regular monitor and a flatscreen. . . . . . .how wrong I was. ;)

BTW, you can get a samtron, samsung makes them. And the qaulity is the same. I love my 17" Samtron- .20, and it was only $100, and that was a year back.
