Lite-On IT drives are excellent, and inexpensive. I think anybody here that has one will agree. Usually can be had for 35 USD or less.

I would imagine that the Lite-On will read both + and - format DVDs. Anyways I will also vote for the Lite-On. A great drive that is inexpensive.

Sony has a 16x DVDRom drive for 34 dollar shipped. but that's the OEM version, I still think it's a beter drive then the lite-on.

It's not just about what it will read lite-on 166 reads +/- R RAM/ROM etc but how fast it will accurately rip and I've not seen anything faster than the 166 16X on DVD's

depends on what kind of computer its for. Easier to just clean the laser of the one you have to make it work better.

If it is a dirty laser! He didn't say how "it's buggin out".
There are a couple of drives faster at ripping then the Liteon 166.I do buy mainly Liteons myself though.I have 5 Liteons,a Sony,Samsung and a Pioneer. The Liteons have been the most dependable.
