just bought microsoft "halo" for pc, attempted to install, OS microsft windows XP, game requires directX 9.0b, which is on the CD itself, cannot install because it is not microsft approved/signed. I went to their website and downloaded, again same result, this lead me to the help topics, which lead me right to this problem, which has not been resolved. I find it hard to believe. Maybe its my computer. Any help on this subject would be appreciated.

Have you tried ignoring the message? I've seen this many times when installing device drivers & you just continue whether signed or not.

yes , i did and i have installed other software which can let you continue, this time it stops installation - Ive recorded this incident with Microsoft and I am hoping the 2nd "support professional" will be able to help me. Even though my current direct X runs fine I believe my OS (XP home edition) has a problem somewhere. Unfortunately, Microsoft might not be as anxious to fix this as I am.

Try a re-format, that should get rid of any problems XP is having, I had major problems with XP recognises my USB camera and dvd writer, did a format and now they load perfectly.
