It's not your DVD Writer that is having trouble. It's your standalone DVD Player (or whatever you are trying to play the discs on). By the way Bulqpaq have the nickname Bulqcrap for a reason. Do yourself a favor and stick to the Riteks as they will be compatible with more DVD Players anyway. If you really want to then try a cheaper brand then I would recomend ordering a trial pack of Princos as they seem to work for a fair number of people. Keep in mind though that if your player is media picky (which it seems to be) then it probably won't play them. Above all steer clear of the so-called "Ritek" dye Datawrite/Datasafe discs as they are made by the same company that made your lovely bulqpaq discs. Lots of complaints about all 3 of those labels (Bulqpaq/Datawrite/Datasafe). Anyways the point is that while Ritek might be a bit more they will be cheaper in the long run as they will give you the best shot at working in just about any DVD Player.

I have had this writer for about 2 months now and so far have only had 1 coaster ( and it was my fault). i've stuck to mostly memorex, I got 2 25 spindles for $65. the only other discs I have tried was a 25 spindle of verbatims which although the discs are ugly all 25 burned perfectly with no problems. The NEC drive can be picky about media but as long as use a goodname brand you should be find.

Stick with the ridatas or any other ritek media, My motto is cheap always means trouble at some stage. Also i wouldn't recommend memorex to anyone but thats just my opinion.

Yeah the memorex media has just as many complaints as Princos (and it is more expensive in most cases). Definitely stick to Ridata or Traxdata.
