Sounds like the dreaded macrovision, Is the dvd player linked up to a televideo or through a video recorder? When ripped macrovision is removed so thats why they play fine when copied to dvdr, As for the movies sticking are u using quality media? ie ritek/verbatim etc? If not then thats probably whats causing the sticking problem as lots of dvd players are very choosy ritek has the best compatibilaty on all fronts.

Yup, seen several complaints about the mirror discs and TONS of complaints about the Datawrite labels. Go with quality media and then see if you can find another way of hooking your DVD Player up to the TV without having to use your sat reciever.

Just get a video audio selector to avoid hooking it up through your VCR and the macrovision should no longer be a problem.... unless you want to dubb the movie to VHS... but now a days is easier to just rip another DVD back up. :)
Also I'm using DVD2one/DVD Decrypter and Nero w/out any problems. I suggest that you try and find a brand that your player likes the most.
