sup ..... i keep getting this email from microsoft telling me to " Use this patch immediately ! " ANd the email has some sort of an attachment....Is this a real microsoft patch or some sort of internet virus?

the email is coming from Microsoft <security@microsoft.com> and the attachment is called patch.exe

the email doesn't really say why it's needed it just says "install this internet explorer patch 500,00 already have been infected"

microsoft does not email patches out as attachments, and im not sure if they even email about new ones being available

it doesnt matter who it says it is from, because the address can easily be (and is) spoofed

Definitely a virus, a decent virus scanner should have picked it up, I've been getting quite a few of these lately every one containing a virus, as said it's not from Microsoft.

If you visit MS website, you'll see a note stating that MS never sends any file/attachment to anyone.

Try reading some posts here, ie. the stickies as well as post within the Security forum for the past 4 weeks.

I am closing this, too many of 'I have email from Microsoft threads'
