Encript Oct 08, 2003, 04:39 PM Rumor or truth a friend of mine told me that there is more lagtime using a wireless network for xbox live then using a regular wire connection. They said that i should not get a wireless connection. Has anyone expericenced such lagtime, i dont know if i should listen to him.
freakit Oct 08, 2003, 05:24 PM not sure about XL, but my bro said it takes forever to upload games through a wireless.
Encript Oct 08, 2003, 07:00 PM how many kbps is it to upload from wireless connection.
Memphis Oct 09, 2003, 08:20 AM It all depends on what kit is being used here. Originally I think wireless started at 2Mbps. You can now get upto 11Mbps. If he's using up to date kit, and of a fairly decent quality with no walls in the way and not a mile apart, then there is no reason for lag as it's just as fast as what most people will be running on a wires network.
(Just for comparison, I run Live on a 10Mbps network at the moment and there is no lag whatsoever)
Encript Oct 09, 2003, 10:53 AM Memphis can you tell me what you have exactly so i can know what to go buy thank you.
Memphis Oct 09, 2003, 10:59 AM Oh, my apologies, I run a wired network. I should have worded it a little better, sorry. What I was trying to say was that an 11Mbps wireless network should have exactly the same performance as a 10Mbps wired network.
I can however suggest anything by Linksys. Netgear also produce very good Wirless networking gear. It might be worth hanging on a little while though as the Microsoft official Xbox Wireless Networking adapter should be out soon.
Stusy Oct 09, 2003, 03:35 PM Just to let you know 11Mbps wirless is not all its craked up to be the true through put is only about 5.5Mbps
And 54G is about 17Mbps
Encript Oct 09, 2003, 05:58 PM Only 5.5 mbps so how can they advertise more.
QWERTY Oct 09, 2003, 06:11 PM 11Mps is under "ideal" conditions. (no walls to interfere, within range, etc.)
Either way, the wireless network still has enough bandwidth to handle the typical game traffic.
Looper420 Oct 10, 2003, 10:10 AM I jsut got a wireless system and got the d-link one. It is 2x up to 22MBps. I do get 22 when connected to the x-box. I am about 5 feet away from the router though. My cpu gets the same and is 10 feet away from the base through one wall. I did get lag time when it was in the closet and the other side of the house.
Encript Oct 10, 2003, 01:23 PM Looper420 Can you tell me the exact model number so I i can to some research on it.
Looper420 Oct 11, 2003, 09:53 AM i got the di-614 as the router, dwl 800ap+ for the xbox and ps2, and the dwl 520+ for my computer. I picked it up at Fry's electronics for 125.00 for all three after rebate. The most expensive part was the dwl 800+ it was like 89 or 99 with a 30 dollar rebate. The router itself was 29.99 after rebate. I did a lot of research and read other places about what people have and numerous people have this setup and had no problems and just like them, i am not having any problems.....took about 10 minutes to get everything up and running.
Looper420 Oct 11, 2003, 09:56 AM check out dlink website, they have it all there. looks like they are going to be coming out with a new 800ap+..... also please note it is the + versions and not the regular versions of these. those are only good to 11 as the ones i got are the + and are 2x faster, believe it or not, it does work at 2x and get 22 MBps.
Encript Oct 11, 2003, 10:39 AM cool thanks
