I found some old floppy disks from my amiga days, I think they contain documents created in wordworth 2.0. I know a normal windows PC can't read them but I was wondering if a machine running linux would be able to? or how about a mac?
It's a long shot but just out of curiosity does any one know off hand and can save me the trouble of re-installing linux just to find out?:)
thanks for reading.

PCs etc (including Macs) are not able to read Amiga disks regardless of Operating System, Only Amiga computers can read Amiga disks.
Amiga's can read/write PC, Mac and Amiga disks, so you could use an Amiga and copy the files to PC disks.

It's the PC drive controller and the way it works that makes it almost impossible for a PC to read amiga disks - there are some workarounds but these are expensive and fiddly and would leave your PC only able to read amiga disks!
The best way to do read files from an amiga floppy is using a direct connection between the two computers.
...but the simplest way is to...
1.format a floppy disk for 720k on your PC.
2.On the amiga load up a program called CrossDos - it's free with later versions of workbench or you can download it from Aminet. This program let's you read/write PC 720k format disks on an amiga. It does this by installing a sort of 'device driver' and you refer to it like you would a normal disk. DF0: to write to an amiga disk in the internal floppy drive, DI0: to write to a PC disk in the internal floppy drive.
3. Write the files to the PC disk in the Amiga
4. Place this disk in your PC.
5. Copy files from floppy to your PC HD.
All Done.
It does take a while though!
And don't worry about the fact the an amiga only read/write double density disks when PC floppy disks are high density disks. When formatted at 720k thne for all intents and purposes it's considered a double density disks and shouldn't give any problems (although cheaper generic floppies may do)
I used CrossDos a hell of a lot when I was at college - I'd use Wordworth on the Amiga, save it to a PC disk and then load it up on the college PC and print using their laser printer.
Also used it to transfer some Amiga floppy disks to my PC to use under emulation.

It can be done if you get a second floppy drive and floppy control software heres one there are others though. I dont think its possible to write to them though only read.
