Hey everyone first off I want to talk about the cd key for Halo and Windows registry: Does anyone know where in the registry the cd key is? I think it's hidden because I see lots of people asking about the cd but noone is answering.

Another thing, I have lost the cd to Halo. I found a replacement that allows me to install Halo, However I have problems when I try to play online. Its funny; at first I could connect and play on over half of the dedicated servers available, while the other half would give me a message saying invalid cd key. But now just about every server I attempt to join gives me the same error. Anyone have any ideas why some servers would not allow your cd key while others would?? None of these servers I've joined were official Microsoft/Bungie servers.

I think it depends on the server. I think different servers will have protection against fake cd-keys. And while you cannot find your original cd-key, the fake one you use, will be used by more and more ppl, so it will become harder to use

They said that they lost the original CD, not the CD key, so I guess they are still using an original one.

Perhaps the servers are tripping over the cracked EXE and giving the wrong error?

Sorry, let me clarify. I meant to say that I've lost the CD KEY to Halo, not the CD itself. I've reinstalled windows since I lost the original cd-key, and so I got a new cd key off of the internet, which the installer accepted, but many online servers dont, and I get the "Invalid CD-Key." I was just wondering if anyone knew why one day a server would let me connect, and the next day that same server wont let me connect anymore.

I guess it takes some time for it to blacklist the key.

Anyway, thread closed.
