Hey Guys,

This is my first time trying to load xp on a sata hard drive (seagate 120gb)

Windows keeps telling me there are no devices, f3 to quit WTF? Anyways its an Asus K8V Deluxe AMD Athlon 64. Is there a way, I ve been at this for 3 hours and been to the seagate website, which by the way are useless. Any help will be appreicated.

Thanks.

P.S. Freemer your input would be helpful too.

Is the device there in the BIOS mate? Can you see it from DOS? Is it powering up ...?

Try this...

Get the drivers for the sata controller and put them on a floppy. (There should be a txtsetup.oem file present if you have the right ones) Then boot to the WIndows XP cd and watch the screen, at some point early on you should see a prompt along the bottom to press F6 to load mass storage controller drivers. Insert the floppy with the drivers and do what the prompts tell you to do.

You'll need to copy the SATA driver to a floppy, press F6 when installing XP to load the driver from A: for the SATA to be recognized.

And you will need to have the sata drive formatted in the first place. Qwerty is right, you need the drivers on a disk to load into windows. When windows asks if you wish to install scsi and other drives right at the start, hit F6 to load them. Then continue from there.

Sata is fast, so enjoy your drive ;)

Hi again, Guess what I tried the floppy that didnt come with the board so had to take off the cd and it didnt work. This is the last time I recommend asus to anybody. I am going to put my foot through it right now. BTW, my board sees the drive with no problem(Abit). Does anybody know what else I can do? It has 4 sata. sata 1, sata 2. pri sata and sec sata for raid. Which I dont want.

Thanks
