Hi I am a computer newbie and have have an ecs l7s7a2 motherboard currently with a amd xp 2000+ cpu. Here is the link for the motherboard
http://www.ecsusa.com/products/l7s7a2.html
I want to know what is the fastest cpu that my motherboard would support and also would it be worth it to upgrade from the 2000+. Would there be a huge preformance boost in games if I upgrade?
thanks

If you are thinking of upgrading personally I would buy a new motherboard, and at todays prices the Asus A7N8X boards are pretty much as good as you can get and would recommend you buy a Barton 2500 CPU.
memory is important with speed, does not matter too much what CPU you have if the memory is not up to it, OCZ is extremely fast, just built a system for someone with mobo&CPU mentioned above + my old GF4Ti4200
(as I am pondering on spending a little extra and buying the 128MB Crucial Radeon 9800 Pro which I am expecting to be just a little fast) with 2XOCZ512MB and Halo runs like a video. Eventually the system will only be as fast as the weakest link, you did not mention your graphics card.
If you just want to make it faster without the upgrades, state what memory you are using, you can get better performance upgrading the memory rather than the CPU, but you may then need to upgrade graphics card, swings & roundabouts
Personally I build and recommend for games, 128MB on board the graphics card (but a good one) 1GB memory at least, 2500CPU
One thing, do not waste your money on crap memory, if you buy OCZ 3200 and you want more speed the memory will serve you for other upgrades
well that's enough dribble

I don't need a new video card or ram yet
I have radeon 9100 128mb(good enough for now) and 512mb ddr 333 ram. I just wanna know more about cpu upgrades and how much preformance boost i'll achieve.
The only game that I play right now is warcraft III tft and it's choppy when I play games with large amount of players. The only other game i plan on getting is final fantasy 11. These are the only 2 games that I will run on the computer so I don't need a super upgrade

First I would try another 512MB of memory, it will speed it up more than a CPU upgrade, more memory=more speed, you need at least 1GB memory for games really this should get rid of the choppy problems,

The L7S7A2 is a 333MHz FSB mobo so, as Cougar suggested, I would get an XP 2500+ Barton, which is a very OC'able chip.
