I am not able to locate my cd rom. After restarting it many times, the CD Rom will not open. I have CD Writer and am concerned now. Please let me know what may be done manually or if I need to purchase something in order to resolve this mess.

Check that the power cable is still connected and active.

Yup! Also check for the proper IDE cabling connection (Pin no.1, Master/Slave jumper settings, etc) of the CD drive as well as burner.

Have you checked whether it is shown in BIOS or not?
