I just got a Sony DRU-510A using Verbatim DVD-R discs (windows XP Home Edt). Here is my problem...every so often when I'm using the provided recordmax software to burn it's reading the burner drive and asking for a "blank" disc. It happened with 3 brand new Verbatim disks !! I never wrote any info to these disks. Looking at the underside of the disk it doesn't looked burned either.

Then if I insert the "blank" DVD-R into Decrypter it says "media not recognized" ???

I use DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, then burn image using Recordmax. Read from reg DVD drive and leave blank disc in burner the whole time.
Is the burner somehow writing a small amount of info disk without me knowing?

Any advice?
Just bad disks?

Im not clear on whats happening. If I use RNM to copy a disk, yes it asks for a blank disk EVEN if there already is one in it.

Thanks for the reply. The problem is that RNM keeps asking for a "blank" disk even after I have inserted one and even tried re-inserting it again.

It's saying the disc is not blank, but it came right from the spindle !!!
Even if I go into Windows Explorer and click on burner driver (with disk in burner) it says "please insert disk"
Maybe its just bad media, but to have 3 do this out of a 15 pack spindle seems odd.

Have you checked to make sure your jumpers, ide cables are cofigured correctly?

Well I know the jumper/IDE cables are fine because if I grab another blank DVD-R from the spindle and put it in the drive, then it burns it fine.
Like I said it only has happended with a couple of disks.
The only explanation is bad disks from the manufacturer. I ordered some Ritek's so I hope I don't have the same problems

It wont support the old Verbs. They did reformulate. I don't know about Riteks in a Sony. I use Accus, they are $72/100 & write at 2x.

Riteks are a bit cheaper and will work fine in the Sony (at least everyone I have talked to has said that Riteks work great in thier Sonys).

You must have bought those from office max or office depot whatever they call them selves, we bought the 2 15 packs buy one get one free, total of 60, 16 of them gave the same message.

Mr. Snatcher.....You da man
You hit the nail on the head. YES I did buy the Verbatim's at Office Max (where I also picked up my burner).

That's great though, now I don't feel like I am going crazy!! I have some Ritek G04's on order.
Thanks again I can now put this issue to sleep.

Send the disks back to verbatim and they will send you replacements.
