The other day a friend of mine told me he was at a car audio store and they told him that burned CD's wear out car CD players faster and if you want your CD player to last limit how much you listen to burned CD's? I have never heard this before is it true?

I've never heard that one before, did they justify their opinion?

Did you ask him if listening to a pirate station will wear out the radio, or if watching pirate movies wears out your TV :-)

Ahh, the cry of the truely clueless salesperson. If you don't know what you're talking about, make something up.

Since the laser is at a fixed output on playback units, and the rotation speed of the disc is the same on a CD as well as a CD-R (yes the speed varies at different points on the disc but will be the same at the same given point on CD/CD-R), there is no way a CD-R disc is going to wear out the player faster.
