DVD decrypter only reads at 2.1x max. dvdshrink is also hellish slow.

What's up? :S

All drives are in DMA where possible, running dma word 2 or whatever.

Gigabyte GA-7DX, 1400mhz Athlon, 384mb DDR, 60GB Maxtor :S

Running XP Pro SP1

Any ideas?!

How many drives are you running and how are they configured? BTW just a friendly piece of advice. . . .DON'T USE YOUR BURNER TO READ DISCS!!!! DVD Burners are pretty fragile and using them for anything but DVD Burning can cause them to die long before they are due (I had a 105 that I used for everything and it died after only 8 months).

Wow jesterrace777 is that really true?? What do other users do?

I have a 106 for all my dvd needs (ripping and writing) and a cd writer for my cd needs. Would you recommend a dvd-rom instead of the cd writer and write cds on the 106?

I seem to remember that you can get a hacked 1.07 firmware that really speeds up the reading time. Personally I wouldn't go there.

Bought a 52CDRW so I wouldn't knacker out the DVD-RW by burning CDs (well it's probably my sister who'd knacker it out)

Surely as the models have progressed they've become more stable? The only thing i've done with the Pioneer was to burn 3 DVDs (data), and to test one film to see what it was like.

Don't really watch films on PC, but was sort of looking forward to it :S Had a 5.1 speaker system that's been redundant for a year since I removed my old DVD/CDRW combo :S

Set up as:

Primary Master: 60GB Maxtor (ata100)
Primary Slave : none

Secondary Master: Pioneer 106
Secondary Slave : 52 CDRW.

 Just realised I never did the jumpers on the CDRW, oh well it works so they must have been set before.
