My version 4 PS2 can read ps1 games, music cd's, ps2 cd-rom games but not DVD's or ps2 DVD games. Is there anyway i can adjust the laser or is it knackered. Please help anyone.

The V4 (came with Gran Turisom right?) are notorious for lasers going out fast. I didn't try the trick of adjusting the wheel in my PS2, I just had the laser replaced. It works fine now and reads all media.

I first started to notice a problem with the DVD-R's would go to the 'browser screen' then boot the game. Now it goes from SCEA straight to game. They are like $100 for laser and installation though.... OUCH.

{I'm running a messiah 2 on my V4 PS2}

It's a waste of time to try to adjust a laser to read DVD-rs if it's not. Just get a new one... Worst case scenario is that your DVD controller is shot and even a new laser won't help, but more likely you just need a new laser.
