Ive got hold of a beta copy of Windows Longhorn 4051, however as part of the install when it comes to selecting the disc to install the OS onto I cant seem to select the "format" option in the installer (its greyed out)....

Do you have to format the Hard disk partition you want to install onto to NTFS before running the installer (ie under another windows OS) ?

Asking for and giving advice on pirated software is not allowed in this forum. However if you are a software developer and part of the Longhorn beta test then you should consult your SDK info and you should discuss this with the beta group you are enrolled in. It is a breach of your NDA agreement with Microsoft to discuss this outside of testing.

Longhorn is a OS upgrade disc, you need to upgrade from 2k/xp.

But as harry o said, you really should look at your devompent kit.
