Good day,

When DMA is enabled for secondary ide controller (cd writer as device 0, dvd as device 1) my system crashes while writing a cd or watching a movie or copying something to my hard drive. For now the only solution I found was disabling DMA and switching to PIO mode, but I find that way too slow (DVD playback gets jerky).

Does anyone have an idea or suggestion on what causes this problem and how it should be resolved ? I am using Windows XP.

Thx

Fresco

first off is your hard drive capable of using dma ...not all harddrives are (unless its pretty new chances are that it is not ...but more info is needed to be sure

I believe that if you select DMA and it doesn't work, then most likely your DVD or CD-RW does not support DMA. You can try to reconfigure your drive setup (splitting up the DVD and CD writer onto different IDE controllers) but I'm guessing the outcome will be the same.
