My brother has Windows XP and transferred some files that he wants to put on a CDRW, when he clicks on 'Write to CD' the progress bar starts and then tells him there is a problem. (something to do with an interruption)

Am I correct in advising him that he needs to format a new CDRW before he can write to it??

Advice appreciated.

yes in general before a cdrw is used it will need to be formatted. Some software used will advise you it needs to be formatted, some won't. If there's nothing on it, then format it.

Just a little tip - the current crop of new CD/RW discs now available may run at speeds of maybe x10 or faster. This requires burners which can handle re-writables at least at the quoted speed. I found that out for myself recently, blaming duff discs, upgrading to a faster burner was deemed neccessary.

Maxicat,

Thank you for that.
