Hi,
I'm looking to get a new PC. The Time systems almost seem too good to be true.

A few years ago they were not recommended as they were very unreliable.

Is this still the case? or are they any good?

if not, what is the best reliable pc of similar spec to the Time advertised systems is worth getting (£999 max)

Any help/links are appreciated

Thanks

well personally i wouldn't touch anything from the time/tiny group. there have been alot of problems with their machines many guys who work in IT repair and support who are members of this forum can probably atest to that.

personally if you going for an amd machine i'd go with
www.evesham.co.uk
www.meshplc.co.uk
www.multivision.co.uk

if its an intel machine you are after i guess dell is probably the best- not sure though

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/index.cfm?go=hardware.top&cat=2

got this from pcadvisor may want to have a look- but it'd be a good idea and get one fo the latest mags for quick look the websites are fairly slow to update latest revies etc. mesh in particular do advertise some pretty good deals in mail and some of the broadsheets as well but i think they are reprinted on their site as well

Agree with nimbles, these places may offer some cheaper parts though (might say an Intel 3.06 CPU but it could be on a crappy mobo etc.)
The best way of getting qualilty components though is to buy all the bits and build it yourself or get a mate to do it (you get exactly the pc you want). You can make it cheaper by keeping the case, PSU, monitor, keyboard, mouse, FDD, CD drive etc if they're still fine for you and only upgrade what you need to.)

Yeh do not go with time. my first computer was with time and it was really underpar and to boot they conned us into getting a £300 support packages where the advisers didint know what they were talking about. Probably an indian callcentre if u ask me.

Try www.aria.co.uk Very reliable + Good customer service

hmm, that's a shame as they had really good spec :( . I can't find anything with as good a spec for £999.
will check out those links for a sub-1000 system which is good, but I know mesh for example the good system is at least £1175

thanks for the replys guys

Is there a Dell UK?

I have a 4550 I bought it in Oct 2002, its 2.4ghz. Right now the same computer deal for about the same price is only 2.6ghz. A whole year & *basic* computers only got .2ghz faster?

You can probably find some cheaper pieces and parts on ebay and pricewatch.

thanks for the replies guys, appreciate it.

I wouldn't mind a built one, as my last desktop was built and lasted 7 years. (p1 233mmx lol), I use my laptop now, but want another desktop.
Thing is, I can't build it myself, and don't have the time.

So I checked out ebay, and it does look good, would you guys recommend ebay for the prices of the built systems on there?

thanks

Personnally I'd be wary of buying something like a PC off ebay.
Go for either a local PC store (not PC world, but a local shop) or someone like gold disc.

hi there dont get be wrong but i thought time and tiny went bust
as there pc you could not repair them at all
throw aways as we class them in the trade :(

i would search on these forums for members who are doing good deals
goldisk is worth checking out a good person to deal with :)

but stay away from tiny crap or time or evesham as its same as tiny crap
