Take a look at the troubles the Lite-Ons are having right now. Trust me you made a wise decision. That and if you wait just a little bit longer you can get the new A07/107 which will write at 8x to DVD-R and not just 8x to DVD+R.

The troubles with the Lite-Ons seem to be fixed with the latest firmwares (check cdfreaks forum). The 811 is now also reported to burn @8x to selected 4x DVD+R media (made by Ricoh, MCC and maybe Taiyo Yuden) just like the Plextor and OptoRite.
