Hi...
I am thinking of buying a DVD writer: - Pioneer 106 OEM and a USB 2.0 to IDE Adaptor, Pioneer 106 from SVP £90 + adaptor £30 from Maplin
because I am running off a Laptop, or would I be better getting a 5.25 case and fitting the Writer up that way.......

You'll still need a power supply to the drive and a fan would also be desirable so I'd go for the external box rather than just an adaptor.

Hi
I have a toshiba satillite laptop and have recently bought an ide
dvd-rw. also i bought a ide-usb cable which includes a power cable. i
have installed nero 6 ultra edition. The dvd will read but not write.
apart from plugging it in i have not changed the settings on the
computer in any way. >>the problem is it is messing up the moue on the
laptop and it will not burn a dvd!

Personally, i'd go with an INTERNAL burner, and not worry about messing around using an external.
