I have a WinTV tuner that lets me capture TV shows to my Hard Drive. I want to capture some Basketball games and then burn to DVD. Which file format would you all recommend for the capture? I guess I would like to know which format is best to use for DVD burning. Also what file size would most 2 hr shows be.

Thanks

Well the best format is any lossless format, although in this case that could mean directly capturing to MPEG2.

Personally I would directly capture to a lossless AVI of some sort, then frameserve to CCE, filtering, removing ads, etc. at the same time.

Lossless codecs would depend on what colourspaces your capture card can do and processor speed.

Filesize would depend on the codec.

Some lossless codecs would be:

huffyuv (fast YUY2/RGB), VBLE(fast, YV12 only), MILK (slowish, YV12), FFV1(slow, YV12/YUY2/RGB), CorePNG (hella slow), LOCO, AVIZlib, etc.

You could also use no compression, which means pretty huge file sizes.
